So I wanna play starcraft (picked it up not too long ago for like $5) and I wanna play zerg. My friend keeps on killing me, so can anyone help me with strategies or something?
umm all you can really do is look up build orders on the internet and figure out what each building and unit is good for, and practice alot
i will say that defilers are extremely good support for a ground army because of dark swarm if you put units under it they take little damage, also plague owns
and you can learn consume and eat some zerglings to give your defilers more energy to do more stuff
a tactic i use with my friend is like this
6-8 drones mining make 9th drone and mine until you get 200 money, build a spawning pool with the 9th drone
save up 100 and build an overlord.
build some zerglings for base defense then build a drone and make an extractor, put 4 drones in it, build a hydralisk den
while that builds upgrade the hatchery
when you get both research lurker aspect, they make a good base defense early in.
from there go air and make mutilisks and guardians(requires greater spire) but don't make all the muts into guardians since they can only attack land units.
make a ultralisk den and upgrade the shit out of the units.
I'll try that, do you recommend making several hatcheries for more unit spawns? It seems to be popular with the zerg's but I am not sure if it's needed.
definitely more hacteries are better. I suggest around 3 hacteries by 10 minutes in the game. Scouting with a drone IS VERY IMPORTANT in deciding how many hacteries to make. Overlords help too in scouting.
or a more widely used strategy is the 12 hatchery 11 pool (9 drone, then overlord, then 3 more drone and you make a hatchery and spawning pool). Then you make a third hatchery while upgrading to lair and then make a spire and 9 mutas at the same time. then 3 more so you can have 11, then you group them up with a larva so that they all stick together.
but u need to know what your opponent gets or he can counter your strategy. if you do the 12 hatchery, he can rush you if you dont get sunken colonys, or if you do 9 pool, he can build cannons or bunkers and defend against it and then kill you.
theres also many variations of strategies like quick 3 hatcheries which means make 2 hatcheries (3 total) before spawning pool, or 9 pool to hatchery instead of rushing with zerglings.
basically all the units are good but some of the common units people often get are :
mass mutas, possibly also scourge, and possibly eventually tech to guardians
mass hydras and possibly zerglings
ultras and zerglings, and eventually defilers with dark swarm
mutas and zerglings is also a commonly used army which is very effective.
disastorm has some good points. If you didnt know 9 pool and 12 hactery means you get 9 drones before building a pool and you get 12 drones before building a hatchery.
I normally dont suggest doing a 3 hatch start if you are not that comfortable with the game since it makes you somewhat vulnerable to attacks if you cannot micro your drones correctly to hold off a force.
usually ill go hydras + lings or mutas + lings since they are fairly easy to control/micro. Defiler + lings + ultra is a GREAT combo, but it requires a lot of microing which can be difficult to pull off.
Averatec-Intel Classic season 2 is so lackluster currently, its all scrubs playing and you will not see any good players in it for another good month. 256 people in a tournament is not the way to go, 64 in season 1 was better.
Season 1 was fairly disappointing especially the finals where it was lopsided
Gomtv Star Invitational is definitely worth watching that one truly has better commentating and games because it has the top 16 players.
As much as i liked Tasteless, he seems a lot worse than before when he casted the first season and the star invitational. Have to say Cholera, Klazart are better commentators as of late which can be found on youtube. Compare to Teamliquid.net and sc2gg.org, gomtv isnt that great.
