Default Second Life is not a game.

I have lurked on here for a while and decided to make an account.

A while back ago, there was a thread about Second Life. That thread did not belong on these forums or this site.

Not everyone in Second Life logs on to Second Life to look at porn(granted that porn makes up 70% of the economy). There is a whole different side to Second Life.

    BUT

Second Life is NOT a game and DEFFINATLY NOT a MMORPG.

    A game

    Has an objective,classes,points, and levels.

In Maple Story and most games:

    - The objective leads up to fighting bosses with your friends.

    - There are levels.

    - There are classes.

    - There are points.

In Second Life, you log on and walk around and either talk to people, build stuff, watch porn, or play around with already built stuff.

It's all completly random and there is no MAIN objective. A game always has a main point that everything leads up to. Second Life's main point is what you make it. Hence, it is not a game.

I have gone into science chat rooms and they agreed with my logic.

SO PLEASE STOP POSTING SECOND LIFE THREADS.

By that logic, anything that is 3D and that you can toy with is a game...

So, I guess a 3D modeler is a game right?

You can toy with it and it's 3D...

You, sir, are in the same league as what you naming theBigOne.

What does it matter that it is 3D? There are also 2D games and browserbased games, muds and etc.

Second life is just an Avater Chat. To meet people. Just an MSN where you have a char and can do some more things.

Hawkey has a point now that I think about it: Does that mean a game is only a game if it's 3D? So, that makes tibia not a game...

I never said the ability to customize your avatar is what makes Maple Story a game.

I ask you this: Are other 3d chats games?

Uh it is a game. It's alot like The Sims. Since when is something only considered a game when it has objectives lol. In a game like Second Life u can very well make ur own objectives anyway. A game does not have to have classes, points, or levels also. Take Tetris for example. That a game with pretty much none of those lol.

    Game -

    1. An amusement or pastime

    3. A competitive activity involving skill, chance, or endurance on the part of two or more persons who play according to a set of rules, usually for their own amusement or for that of spectators.

But, this forum is hardly ever on topic anyway, and its close enough to a mmorpg to be in this section.

    Sooo nooo.

Yeah, there are combat simulators.. RP sims, level up areas, sword combat where you level up each time you kill an opposing player.

The sims is a game. If you have played the sims 2. You should know that the objective is to meet each Sim's different aspirations.

You meet them by making out with people or getting money.

However, the aspirations are the main point of the Sims 2.

I do not consider walking around and talking to people a game. Second Life is more of an application then a game..

Actually im pretty obessed with The Sims 2 at the moment. Meeting their aspirations on the Sims is only the objective if u WANT it to be the objective. The game itself is all about creating an online life with whatever challenges and events that u want to occur. Second Life is the same way. It's a game, just not a typical mmorpg.

Your personal objective on The Sims 2 maybe to run a successful business, or get to the top of ur career, or get married then have a baby then cheat on ur wife with her best friend. It's all ur choice and it is what YOU make it.

    No, you!

So either you're hating for the sake hating or someone on Second Life didn't share their legos with you.

(By the way, the SL hate bandwagon already got banned and rolled outta town, you're late)

I agree with the OP. SL ain't a game.
Btw, it has it's own coding language or so, doesn't it?

    Thank you.

Yes, it has it's own coding language. It has the ASPECT of a program.

WoW,Maple Story, THE SIMS do not.

They are 100 percent FUN and NOT work

I believe that someone stated before that a game must be all enjoyment.

Generally, people do not work in thier spare time.>_>

just to make one thing clear, every game has it's own scripting language. also, wow also have their own scripting language release to the public as well. there are variety of games that release they game scripting language to create their own dungeon and quest.

if you have never study true game programming, you will never make such a stupid comment about a game not having its own language, because they all do. a game is basically made from an engine with its own scripting language.

scripting gives forms to games in many different ways. cinematic scene in games are done by using the game's own scripting for example.

the biggest examples are rts games such as Starcraft and Warcraft. when you are developing an UMS map, you are actually scripting using their own scripting language.
