    Default Science help

    i need help with this, im learning about Balancing combustion reaction equations in Science and i need help with this one:

    CH3NO2 + O2 -> CO2 + H2O + NO2

    I don't know how to do this one, I have nothing to compare CH3 to or NO2 too, any ideas?

    ch2no3 + o2 -> co2 + h2o + no2

    He did it wrong, dont worry about it. Let me see if i can solve it, because this is already my second year doing this stuff lol. But it's not easy i can tell you.

    Yeah, I did do it wrong.

    CH3NO2 + O2 -> CO2 + H3O + NO

    Basically, you balance the side the arrow is pointing to. Make it true to the statement before it.

    There are 3H, 4O, 1N, and 2C. You have to make it equal that on the right side.

    Edit: May be wrong again, I sucked at balancing.

    4 CH3NO2 + 7 O2 = 4 CO2 + 6 H2O + 4 NO2

    There you go, you just have to do it like Bekk said, make everything on the right side equal to the left side, an important rule is that you only may put numbers BEFORE the molecules. For example you want 2 of the Na groups, then you have to put it like 2Na and not Na2.

    i knew that, but my teacher said "balance the Carbon first, then the Hydrogen, then the Carbon, i didnt see any Carbon on the left side the first time i saw it. thanks guys +rep!

    Yea, that's another thing, you have to keep the numbers as low as possible.
