White (In terms of race)

This has been a talking point between my friends, my family, and myself for a long time, ever since I brought it up a few years ago.

When does a person stop being 'white'?
For example, in my opinion, people native to anywhere in Europe (Including Turkey and Greece) are white, and anything more South (Africa or Asia) isn't.

But on the other hand, some of my friends say that the line is drawn at Italy and Spain (They're white) but Turkey and Greece are not. And another of my friends said that not even Spanish and Italian people are white, and that the line is drawn at the south of France.

One of my friends said that Turkish and Greek people aren't white as they are not white as English people. But if that is the case, then English people may as well not be white either, as Northern Europeans are 'whiter' than them.

I've talked to someone that considers even as far as light-skinned North Africans white.

Also, what do you consider someone from countries such as Somalia and Ethiopia? In the schools here virtually everyone considers Somalians (And Ethiopians to a degree) not black.

What do you guys think?

I don't consider myself white(I'm Turk). We're just far from white. Rather Asian-looking, IMO.

Weren't the terms originally in reference to skin color? I mean, I don't think geographical location ever had anything to do with it.

I remember in American history class it took awhile for the Irish to be considered "White". But that was more of a political term back then more than anything else. Today though, definitions like; White, Black, Asian and so on are a lot broader, at least that's what my teacher says.

I am not racist at all, and have a black father, but this question comes to mind.

If before the rights people deserve were implented, and People who had white skin were slaves for the black, would it be the same where everyone still fights over racism, just reveresed skin pigments?

I think racism is stupid, and if i sound any bit racist or almost racist, i am terribly sorry.
