about the nu-metal, it's not considered "true metal" by the "hardcore metalheads" becuase it doesn't resemble the root of how metal came to be and evolved

but it's metal nevertheless, like or not, it's just that "metalheads" go into nerd-rage when people call slipknot and stuff "metal" and not "nu-metal" semantics really, nothing more or less

and about the original genres, power gamer pretty much explained it himself, there are genres wich are clearly defined with almost "scientific" proof, and then there are variations of them that can be considered on the same level/taste/sound, and from that you can base yourself on how to define a band

It doesn't matter what you "think" is metal, just what is.

Haha at those saying Bring Me the Horizon and System aren't metal.

BMTH (IMO) isn't metal. It's deathcore. Death metal + Hardcore. I don't consider that true metal. Just like I don't consider pop rock real rock.

    SoAD are overrated :P

Doesn't actually matter what you think, what matters is what they are.

Whether you consider System overrated or not does not mean they aren't metal.

Even said it yourself. Though, BMTH is a -terrible- example, there are much, much better deathcore groups out there. Animosity and Last House On The Left, for example.

But really, the genre shit is getting a little annoying, at least in the newer era of music. I hate all these generic metalcore bands being all like, "we've thrown in elements of thrash/black/death/doom/techno/wtfever" and then you listen to it and it's the same shit you've heard, just with a different name.

I just call it metal. Works for me.

edit: This is coming from just a general lover of music, I'm not a hardcore metal elitist or rock 'n roll fanatic or anything, so take all my statements with a grain of salt.

I'm none of those so-called elitists either.

The difference is, I know more about their music than they do, mostly because they act like if you don't listen to it, you don't know. Unaware that it's all variations of rock or metal and nothing more.

As for BMTH; they're deathcore. I don't (and nor do/should other metalheads) consider anything -core metal. Not even metalcore, because that's just a subgenre of hardcore. Not being a douchebag or an elitist ***, I'm just basing this off of their music. Sure, there are -core bands that are more metal than core, but that doesn't make them metal bands.

And as for SOAD; how are they metal? I don't know what they'd fall into, I would say alternative rock or hard rock, but not metal by a long shot.

And I'm trying to be as non-my-regular-elitist-self as possible.

    Screamo isn't a legitimate genre.

I asked someone and they said "It's screaming emo.", well then it's still emo. Black metal is still metal. Not scream-tal.

I see your point. No wait, I don't.
You can tell that to every other power metal band out there.

There's a reason I'm not a fan of power metal.

Metal it is, though, in general. Though if you had to list the least metal power metal bands, Dragonforce would actually be riding a dragon all the way to TRL, in a flurry of "Whooa-oaaaaa!" and Pacman noises.
