Default Hair question ( Watches as drawnzer sprints to this thread)

So, I'm getting highlights on my hair today. They're red high lights. Anyways, the problem is my moms doing it for me and she has a shade of red that's a little too dark for my liking. Is there any way to make the red highlights 1-2 shades brighter? I heard that highlights are heat activated from a yahoo answers thread, and blow drying your hair makes your highlights brighter.

Watch this video, see the girls hair on the second picture? I kind of want it to be like that.

EDIT:Oops, sorry for not posting the vid

You should bleach them first then :P, and then as someone said, red fades quite easy.

I don't really care if red fades easily, anyways, I just discovered my mom has a red that's a shade brighter. I would still like it a little brighter though. I'm not bleaching my hair, either. Any tips? I don't really care if red fades easily though, my mom is a professional hair stylist and has her own shop. I get highlights and everything else for free anyways, does blow drying make your highlights brighter?

Um, all he knows and by his own admittance, is how to style your hair like a scene kid.

The shade is dependent on the color of your hair currently.
The darker your hair is, the darker shade of red it will be.

Telling us your hair color would help |:
My bad if you DID mention it, I skimmed the original post.

    That could pose a problem
If you're shooting for a light shade of red, I'M PRETTY SURE (Don't quote me on this) one of the earlier stages of bleaching could accomplish it.

Going from Jet black -> Yellow (Fully bleached) takes several steps.
In between , you will have different colors each time it's bleached.

In my opinion you should just bleach some parts white than dye them red.

EDIT: Any bleaching WILL fry your hair completely if not done right.

EDIT2: Forgot to mention, the highlights will eventually fade to an orange, that's why i suggested the dye.

I only have to say this now,
    GET THIS DONE PROFESSIONALLY.
    GO TO A SALON.
(The Bleaching, Dye you can do yourself.)
If you try to do it yourself, it will have horrible results.

    I truly do mean this,

    Congratulations.

I've seen my friends have a HORRIBLE result doing it themselves (Breaking off constantly, feeling mushy, etc, it's rather disgusting really)

Alright, my ass is signed into MSN messenger... you know my MSN email, right?
