Default Obama Wins and Dems get 60 so....

Well, now that I got your attention. This topic is not about any of what was above, but a "if it happens". So if Obama wins and Dems get 60 in the Senate do you think there is a chance that the health program will actually get some sort of boost?
Now this topic purely about past politics not the 2008 era. Since Regan ran for President the candidates have been saying they will lower taxes and get national health coverage. Now many of them actually tried but where unable to get enough support behind their idea (Clinton is a great example when the senate didn't agree with his/her health plan LOL).
So if the title actually happens do you think there is a chance of us finally getting it, as well what where the problems in the prior presidencies that stopped them from actually doing it?

Since Obama's health plan is closer to Canada's then anyone elses, I doubt it'll pass. Canada's health care is ****ed up, some people have to go into the US to get proper care.

    o rly? lol

    These are Canadians

I love it. I have never had to wait for surgeries (have had two), tho you may have a two-three hour wait in a hospital for non emergencies. I can call up my doctor at 830am and be seen that day by him or an associate. I have never had to pay for a thing. I even have work cover my prescriptions. I pay a $0.49 dispensing fee. You may hear about people coming down to the states for medical treatment and that is true for certain procedures. But why they care I do not understand. The government pays the bills and even reasonable out of pocket expenses. As for the cost. Taxes of course are geared to income and in Ontario we also pay 14% tax on almost everything. Food and many children's items are exempt. But then again a low income family also can get a max of $250 per month for a baby bonus-per child until age 18. Also a cheque for $100 a month per child under 8 to help pay for child care. The system is not perfect but it works.

My cousin was 6 when she developed leukemia and without health care system, my uncle would be financially ruined. She is now 16 and has been in remission for 6 years.

    Yes. it works.

Did you know that per individual Health Care costs less in Canada than in the US even though 40 million people in US are not covered?

One reason is since it is universally available, it works proactive versus passive. Also, more people are healthy and hence there are more people who work and pay taxes.

    I love Canada and Canadians.

Before you make a comment like that. Whats so ****ed up about it?
If you ask me, if you have to pay about $80,000 to attach a finger that was cut off then that's more ****ed up.

Agreed. I'd rather move to Canada.

Okay, Let me reword that. Canadian's health care plan when used for Americans will not work as well as McCain's policies. But since we are focusing on Obama, there are some flaws. First off, Canada's tax rates are 10% higher than America's, something that Obama promised not to do. Also, his plan only covers the basics, so things like drugs you would have to pay for. The current health care is not causing many problems, why try to change it?

Yes McCain's policies. You mean the guy who has no understanding of health care what so ever? The one who admitted to not understanding the economy? Let's give everyone $5000. Some people still won't be able to get health care because they won't be accepted because of conditions they have. Some people still won't be able to afford it if he gets elected. People will still be getting screwed over by the Health Care companies that care about nothing but money. It would even cost less money for the government to run it Obama's way.

The goverment already pays about $35 per head to healthcare companies.
France, on the otherhand, pays about $2 per head.

We already pay more than enough money. There may be a higher cost during the switch, but once the system is fully implemented, it can cost less than it's currently costing us.
So, no raise in taxes needed. In fact, we could get a tax break!

As for the OP, I think yes. It will be hard, but if the dems win as you described, it might be possible.
Though the push from the insurance companies will be a big one, and that will be where the biggest challenge lies.

    Most likely.

But imagine everything else that might go through.
