You have three options my friend...
    One:
Comprehend that the game is now a part of you and you will no longer be able to resist playing it for hours on hours and then constantly thinking about it.

    Two:
    Get a girlfriend

    Three:
    Get a ******

    Four: (Secretive Last Resort):
Video AI or Asian Porn ^_^

That's embracing it, not overcoming it.

I had the same problem for 4 years, from 14 to 18. pretty much ruined my highschool days.

I lost all my friends and dropped outta school to play, my parents are very wealthy so they didnt care so much. they just let me stay home all day and play.

I just had an awakening one day, i just asked myself why. theres alot of things to do in the world. video games dont have to consume your life. you can get just as much done in 2 hours a day, because in all honesty the other 6, 7, or 8 hours in video games is just you messing around doing nothing.

The first days are hard, but you just gotta play games within reason. its all about willpower. don't let the games control you, the games will always be there. Your friends won't if your not there for them.

Go Outside, an for god sakes play video games within reason.

Get a girlfriend. They are the anti-MMO. A) 99% of them hate mmos. B ) They tend to have things much more INTRIGUING than anything an mmo can offer. Unless of course she is as into mmos as you. In that case, she isnt worth it and get rid of her with your games.

    The only solution possible:

    Bake.

-Yes, that is right. Bake. Like, cookies... Or something.

He just needs some friends. Honestly if you have them you tend to game less and just chill with them instead.

lol best one of them all.
So love it or hate it.

I'm very much attracted to gaming. I suppose it is a compulsion.
I constantly look for the next game.
At the moment I'm waiting for Fallout 3 It's out in a day or two.
As a gameplaying freak and tester, I maybe in self denial.
I think in life you've got to look for enjoyment, something to make you feel happy.
So what ever it is you do, Keep it in moderation.
just enjoy your games and don't get too involved too much,
Don't let them take your time away.
If friends call! go see them!
don't be a victim because you think your stuck on a quest or need to finish it.
    try this,
Someone enters your gametime, Shutdown your computer, go out, see friends, do something!
Come back to your game, ask yourself what really stopped you? Nothing,
You can get back into the game at anytime! its that easy.

Moderate your game play, have fun with your life.
Think of it not as an addiction, but, as One of the many things you love to do!

Hmm, some of these solutions are quite drastic.

I don't consider gaming to be a problem. Gaming kindles a lot of creativity, social interactions, and coordination.

If you are playing too much, it is quite obvious that you love what you do or have some compulsion to game. Why then don't you make it more productive rather than distractive? Instead of playing games, why not start making them? Think about storylines and ideas for new games. Take all of your knowledge and experience and put it to good use!

I am sure that if you really play a lot of games, you will be an ideal game developer. It will not only make you more productive, but may also help you get into a career path that you will love.

Don't stop gaming! Just put it to better use!

Also don't worry, later on in highschool/college/grad school you wont have as much time to game. Just make sure you can get to that stage and the gaming compulsion will start to wear off.

This comes from a ph.D bioengineer who loves to game :P

    Pick up a hobby.

I really don't think it's an addiction, when it becomes border-line is when you start ruining your regular life situations.

Like blowing off your girlfriend or deciding not to hang out with your friends because you want to stay in and play a game. I play games all the time, but I know what needs to be done outside of gaming and when it needs to be done. There's nothing wrong with spending your free time gaming. Your life is what you make it, it's understanding the balance between your free time and your 'not so free time'.

I use to feel like I need to go on the computer and play games even when they started to bore me. For some reason I just had to go on. But, I just turned off the computer one day and went to the mall. And wow, there's a shit load of stuff to do other than gaming.

you could overcome it i think but its hard. the only key to beat the adiction is to be busy ALLOT, and OUTSIDE of the door go out in the weekends, get a job, go skydive, go see a movie, go to music festivals, get more friends/girlfriend, just go wild and dont even give yourself a moment to even think about computer games =p but if u think 'nah that all sucks' like me ur stuck to computer gaming forever lol. in that case id consider start smoking pot lol, works awesome with gaming
