Hi. I know there are many topics about RO but I had a question. Ive heard loads of pros about this game but now im hearing some cons as well. If ive never played it before, should I? how is the cash shop and what about the community/pvp?

I suggest trying out a *cough* server if you want to play. RO is well known for it's pvp and WoE along with many many other features. I actually haven't played it thoroughly but I do have the downloader on my desktop and will play it once I have free time.
Well its a pretty old game.. (2001) But its still alot better than most of the free to play games out of here. I used to play it alot in the past. And yes it is worth a try. But try a *Cough* server.

Byran re read my post I did have something constructive , I added to the topic , by actualy being helpful and awnsering his questions.
Mikki a one word response , that awnsers nothing in reality is spam. +Post count ?
Anyways , a low rate (2x's -8 x's) could rid of the grind HOWEVER , the comunity is MUCH smaller , so either its a good or bad comunity. Normaly tight knit though. Hit me with a PM and I can "Move you" towards a decent server.
I've played RO since beta, off and on for the last year because I've been playing Final Fantasy Online as of late.
RO is a solid game. It has the same thing as many other MMOs that came later and it's a bit outdated as far as graphics go. IRO now has a free server, valkrie, that has some restrictions on it--but well, it's free.
Ragnarok is a game worth trying especially with the free server. There's nothing too much to loose and the new server seems to be full of enthusiastic people last time I checked.
The PVP isn't something I've touched but I have done more than my fair share of WoE. WoE is the Guild vs Guild that also has good rewards for the guild that holds down the castle. It's fun and requires alot of teamwork. It's one of the highlights of the game once you get tired of grinding. I know plenty of people who only come on for that.
The GMs are actually seen in game from time to time. The customer service has improved in the lastyear greatly. They are still updating the game and are, in fact, overhauling the entire mechanics of the game in the near future.
I can reccomend a few sites to go to for information.
ro.doddlercon.com
Doddler is basically -the- authority for the game and his stats calculator (once you figure it out) is the most accurate out there.
irowiki.org
has all the other information that you'd need if you want to have more detailed information on quests/mobs/classes.
I would say it's definitly worth checking out.

Second page dude look around before you decide to post.
Btw servers with about 1-2k people on is fine to have a woe so long as all the castles arent open. And NO it does not get rid of the grind. Like i said in the other thread its all about knowing the game. The grind comes in when you start hunting equips and cards and believe me it is not fun. End result is epic though.
The free iRO Valkyrie was fun to play at, I'd still play there but I quit mmorpg's.
wouldnt hurt to try the game.
see if you like it and can handle the grind.
theres pretty much no questing in RO, so leveling can get very dull alot of times
RO is one of them games where it can get,
very, very grindy if you dont know what your doing.
if you do plan on playing official i suggest you try a mid rate pserver first.
so you can fiddle around with all the class's and get a feel for the game.
the cashshop is ok. most of the stuff in it is mediocre imo.
if you plan on using cashshop. forget about it. not worth it imo.
better off investing that money to play on one of the p2p servers.
The game is cool but definently not on the official servers. Feels like it takes a day to get from level 3 to 4.
You should try a *Cough* server first before anything.
Reputation: 15Ragnarok Online was the definitive MMO of its generation. Seven years is a long time for an MMO to still stand with a massive fanbase (RO still has millions of players around the world, including 20-30k playing in primetime around the world). It's well worth it to try out the game if you haven't before.
Leveling up is a major part of this game though. Just like in every mmorpg, building up your character is more than half of the fun usually. And in 3 months is very exaggerated, especially since Valkyrie is new and you can start pvping VERY early on if you want. Nobody is really much higher than the 70s, a few rediculous power gamers are getting up towards 99, but thats a tiny minority.
I gaurentee playing a private server will ruin any chance of them giving this game a try. Not because its a bad game, but because its like watching a movie in fast forward and then pressing play just for the end scene. It might be fun but you wont really know whats going on and it just wont feel the same as if you experienced the whole thing.
Also private servers are NOT allowed to be recommended or spoken about on these forums, stop using the "cough" replacement because you are still talking about something you arent supposed to. I really wish the mods would be more clear about that.
