    There, one of the ingredients.

An important herb in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is astragalus root, called Huang Qi in China. It's used to strengthen the body's immune system, known as wei qi in TCM.

Astragalus root can be found dried in Chinese herbal shops or some natural health food stores. If you don't have access to astragalus, you can omit it from the recipe.

The particular blend of nutrients and vitamins in traditional chicken soup can slow the activity of certain white blood cells. This may have an anti-inflammatory effect that could hypothetically lead to temporary ease from symptoms of illness.

Because it is simple to prepare, relatively cheap, nutritious, and easy on the digestive system, chicken soup is a good food for recovering. Probably more significant, sipping warm soup can clear the sinuses because of the steam ventilating into the nasal passages, serving as a natural decongestant, which also relieves cold and flu symptoms.

I did a paper on this once in high school. Basically there's some chemical in chicken that makes you feel better, but there really isn't much in it. The main thing that makes you feel better is the warmth (soothing your throat), as well as the mass amounts of salt which I think kills some of the inflamed cells.

Chicken soup, with or without noodles, is good for a sick person especially when it's hot. As you sip the hot soup, your body reacts to the temperature of the soup...& making you perspire. So the sweat comes out of your body, lowering the body temperature, taking off your fever. That's what I know.

I think its just the soup that makes you feel better. Typically when you have a fever, your body temperature is doing all kinds of funky things, so eating hot soup when you are chilled to the bone makes you feel a shit ton better. It MIGHT be something to do with the chicken and noodle combo, but I doubt it.

Have you ever looked at the places they raise chickens then?

PETA is full of shit most of the time, but look up "KFC Cruelty", you won't eat chicken for months.

They pump chickens full of anti-biotics to keep them alive in sub-par living conditions. And when I say "sub-par" I mean a cage they can't even stand up in.

When I'm sick I just eat/drink like I normally do, and I'm cured within three days usually. Only "medicine" I take is an occasional cough drop.

The chicken you get in a soup can or from the store doesn't live free range, unless you buy it on purpose though

Its a lot more expensive for free range, but worth it because it isn't mean to the chickens. We can't afford it, but if we could I would be buying that instead.
