Default Let's have a discussion on: Martial Arts

Tell me about your backgrounds and interests.

Whether you love the quick kicking speed of tae kwondo, the different variations of moves in karate and kung fu, the destructive raw power of muay thai to deadly throws of Judo and bone breaking and complicated ju jitsu.

I for one have a passion in fighting arts. Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, Muay thai and boxing have kept my attention for around 6 years now.

Although I have never been to a proper BJJ class i have been trained by my muay thai instructor.

When it comes to muay thai, i love the way the kicks deliver so much powers and their hands aren't so shabby either. You can turn around a whole fight with just one properly placed leg kick. Also my favourite thing to do is is the "thai clinch" when you have someone completely controlled with the thai clinch, you have so many moves you are itching to do to them whether it be simply kneeing the heck out of your opponent to pulling a crap load of combos.

Lastly boxing my latest passion. I would have to say one of the most complex stand up arts ever. It may look easy on t.v but you have to learn proper guards, footwork, form etc. Even before you can stand up with a proper practitioner and not get knocked out.

Enough about that tell me about yourself.

Well i would say muay thai... but i seen it been said already.

Let me explain a little about me and Muay thai, i bet ill make it sound like a relationsship

    1) Muay thai does NOT have belts... know what that means? NO ****ING SPENDING MONEY ON SOME LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT CLOTHE.

    2) Muay thai is simple. you aint gonna do kathas and shit like that, which you will never use in a real fight.

    3) Muay thai is really easy to learn. it aint complicated and have relatavely small compendium compared to all that karate shit and shit like that.

    4) Muah thai is the most winning Martial arts in most world class competetions. K-1 for example. Of course this does not say that muay thai is the best, but it does somehow give you an impression of what the awesomeoness of muay thai is.

been training for 2 years. a little break now... so muay thai all the way

It will not be of any use for you though against more than one opponent or in any situation that is not exactly corresponding to competition procedures.

The same even more so applies for Brazilian Ju-Jitsu, which is utterly useless in any form of self defense.

It also relies on a physical fitness that is only achievable in youth, which makes it to limited for me personally.

Totaly agree. though if you are good ( like in pro) at BJJ, you are pretty much untouchable on the street. Same goes for MMA and Wing Tsun.

I do believe that Krav Maga is the best against more than one opponent.

I know, I can't find any counter arguments for it either.

It's ignorant saying Muay Thai is easy to learn. Of course anyone can punch and kick which i think you are referring to. But there are so many other aspects like timing, properly guarding, preforming the attack with correct form and so on and so forth.

The muay thai arsenal has to be the most impressive of striking arts i must say.

Have you ever had an amatuer/pro muay thai match against an opponent who knew what he was doing? It's way different from simply showing off what you can do on a punching bag and circling a thai pad holder.

    No one else?
Believe me Muay thai has a big culture behind. but i think the others take the culture and art a little too serious compared to muay thai. also muay thai trains mostly a lot of physical training too. i remember waking up at 8 in the morning, running 10 km then back and train normal... thats serious stuff

I'd have to disagree, using BJJ on the street is like asking for a beating when fighting multiple opponents. And most MMA fighters take as much damage as they dish out. Krav Maga is all about psychology. As for Wing Tsun... I'm just going to laugh.

A true martial art emphasizes on minimal effort for maximum results. Self control over brute force and spiritual self awareness and humility. Compared to just being a dumbass that will fight everyone that they disagree with.

I never said multiple oppononents. All in all, it concludes in what and which you want to use your martial arts for. Many people would just go frenzy with their skills. Others, like some BJJ's, would di-stabilize their opponents instead of hurting them badly. I mean ive been to a couple of fights, and my skills have taught me that i do not have the skills to grab and grabble ( like a BJJ) until my opponent is laying down in a weird position where he in the end would have to say '' ok ok i give up, let me go'' ... Ive had to hit my opponents badly before they would give up

4-5 years of Kenpo style Karate, with a little bit of sai action thrown in there.
I made it to green belt, and stopped for some reason.
I'd like to go back, but I'd probably have to start over at white belt, and do the I formation punching.

    True ...

But we all know the true reason for doing martial arts. Its to look cool while kicking ass of said dumb ass. And that's the answer I get when asking most of my friends that do martial arts. I don't really buy into the philosophy aspect of martial arts mainly because it makes me fall asleep.
