Default I Think I Fried My Motherboard?

I'm obviously on a different computer right now, but I was playing on my computer, and I went to plug in a microphone into the microphone plugin on my computer, but as I tried to do so I realized that it wasn't the right type of plugin (the microphone jack didn't fit into the microphone plugin right) and the moment I did so my computer powered down. There was no sort of noise or smoke or anything, it just powered down, and now it wont power back up.

I tried unplugging my power cord and leaving it for a while, I also tried plugging into a different outlet, nothing. When I press the power button nothing happens, no beeps, no nothing.

There must be some power flowing through the motherboard though because the little blue light (that's always been on) is still on my motherboard.

I don't know what to try, anybody have any ideas of what I should do?

Thanks in advance to any who reply.

its a big chance that your motherboard has been shortsircurited or how you spell it, it happened to me when i got my new motherboard, and the lights were on, if you can, test your powersupply on a different computer, and/or test your motherboard on a different power supply

luckely for me i got a new motherboard 1 week later ^^

PS: take this in Tech forum next time ;o

Taking it out and testing on a different system isn't really an option :S

But I'm thinking that if it was indeed short circuited then there would be no lights at all? Because like I said the little light on the motherboard is still on, just I don't get any power when I hit the power button.

mine was sorta short circuited and the lights were on,can be that the 20/24 pin has went or maby any of those small batterie on the motherboard has exploded. take a look at it, look for burn marks, does the card smell burnt? mine had no burn marks not any exploaded battery thingies. first i thought, damn the powersupply went, but i tried it on a different computer, it worked, (brought it to a friends computer) then i tested in on the motherboard, nope not working, so i sent it back and the ysaid it was short circuited.

so it seems like we have/had the same problem.

Now.. im off to school, hope this helped ^^

check the power pins and reset pins, try removing them, then turn it on, then use a screwdriver to see if there is any power flowing..

if none, ur power supplys broken, if there is, your board is broken

    not so sure tho lol

Yeah I opened it up and looked over it, there are no obvious signs of anything wrong, it looks perfectly normal. I also tried removing and plugging back in the power/reset pins, to no avail, what do you mean use a screwdriver to see if any power is flowing though?

Also as a sidenote the little red light on the back of the power supply is still working...and power light/hdd lights work, so obviously some power is flowing through, so I'm guessing it is indeed motherboard...but I'm just hoping theres some obvious thing I'm missing or something I can do...it's an 780iNvidia board..not really all that cheap. It would suck really bad if it was fried :S

Try resetting your cmos. You may be having a boot failure and nothing happens.

Note: resetting your cmos only involves resetting the bios, it will not affect your OS installation.

Note2: Resetting cmos will involving moving a pin cap around on a few of your motherboards exposed pins. Consult your motherboards manual on how to reset cmos. If you have a store bought computer, may God have mercy on you.

edit: I'm heading to sleep right now, so I won't be able to reply to anything you ask me until tomorrow.

I thought you had to turn your computer on to reset cmos? Okay I'll look it up in my manual, no it's not store bought I built it myself. Which is why I'll be all the more saddened if it dies on me! Especially considering it'd cost $200 to replace it!

So if it was indeed my motherboard that fried, would it have fried everything on the board as well?

That would make things suck even more
    Not really.
Just because you get lights does not mean that your PSU is good.
Your PSU can still feed power to the computer, but it can be faulty power. A power supply has multiple power rails that various amounts of power goes through. Only one can go bad and the rest stay good.
And also, a damaged component can cause a system to not boot at all, be it a CD drive or a graphics card, or a networking card.
If your motherboard is damaged, it could have killed everything else, or nothing else.
If your PSU is damaged, it could have killed everything else, or nothing else.
If your CPU is damaged, it could have also killed everything else, or nothing else.

Everything is running off of electricity, and that power goes through everything. If the power gets modified to "bad power" in one single component, it could then travel through other components and damage them.

Really, I could go on and on and on like this.
When it comes to computers, nothing is really ever certain.
There are billions upon billions of factors that need to be considered, especially when it comes to such a major hardware issue.
