    Default Tabula Rasa shutting down.

    http://www.rgtr.com/news/latest_news...la_rasa_t.html

    To the Tabula Rasa Community,

Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we've achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn't performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.

So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.

Before we end the service, we'll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009.

We can assure you that through the next couple of months we'll be doing some really fun things in Tabula Rasa, and we plan to make staying on a little longer worth your while. For more details about what we are doing for Tabula Rasa players, please click here.

Stay tuned for more information. We thank you for your loyal support of the game and encourage you to take us up on the benefits we're offering Tabula Rasa players.

    The Tabula Rasa Team
    That was fast.

Becomes Free to Play on my Birthday.

    How odd.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear.

You shout and no one seems to hear.

@QuakeStriker, The world's largest importer can't get hurt or else everyone feels it, and in all fields.

Also, I saw this one coming. Once Yahtzee utterly slams it, death is innevitable.

yeah i think so too and also with Aion just round the corner they dont want to keep up a near dead game anymore. I wont be surprised if Dungeon runners gets killed off soon as well.

o come on...... Your gonna blame NCSoft for trying something new? Want them to be sorry for not following the same route all the other devs are doing and just making typical (done before) games?

    GW- Unique

    CoH - Unique

Lineage2 - Unique at its time.

    Dungeon runners - Unique.

    Exteel - Unique.

NCSoft is a great company dont ever get it twisted.

And SoulEX is only mad cause he got banned for spamming. Try the stuff that you did there on these forums lets see if the mods dont ban you too.

Well at least they're being generous for their loyal customers:

"To thank our loyal Tabula Rasa fans we've prepared a little closing down gift. Any active paying player as of 10:00 AM Pacific Time on November 21st, 2008 will be eligible for all of the following:

    * 3 free months of City of Heroes including digital client
    * 3 free months of Lineage II including digital client
    * Aion beta access (coming soon)
    * Aion pre-order access (available in 2009)
    * 1 free month of Aion including digital client (available in 2009)"
Damn.. I should've bought it after all.

I'm not blaming NCSoft for not trying something new, I'm blaming NCSoft for trying new games that don't sell. They've seen the direction that games like Hellgate, and their previous "unique" game Auto Assault have went.

So whats your point? Are you blind to how companies work? If they dont try then how will you find out whether it works?

FYI Hellgate and TR are two completely different game platforms and they both came out near the same time....

And AA again a diff game.

I really hope you dont own a company in the future. Playing the waiting game is not how a company makes successful products.

Yes, and companies should know what games market and don't market.

Both of them had "unique" standpoints on what an MMO should be, and they all failed, apparently.

You're right, they it isn't the way a company makes successful products. But taking past mistakes into account is.

Meh arguing isnt going to prove anything.

But i still think the theory of trying new things that havent been done before should always be welcomed.

Else we would still be playing Diablo looking games.

i mean look at FFXI for example i bet loads of people thought that would fail as well but its still doing well.

I understand what you mean about learning from mistakes but when the games are that much different you will never know. I can be sure that we will not get anymore games like TR or HellGate for a while now. Since both games had the funding so that wasnt even a factor.

Lethal dont worry, Bryan understands very little of modern economics. Investment means no sure return, sure they can do further research to minimize their losses, but it is beyond a companies control whether a game is well accepted or not.

Despite the fact that "Feedback Friday" apparently had no effect on what they did? NCSoft and the developers behind Tabula Rasa did try to get more people to accept the game, in fact, they completely changed game mechanics (FPS mode) to try to lure more players. That didn't work. Trust me, they did try to control more acception of the game.
