    Default Where to begin...

So, with all this talk about Imagine lately, I've had the urge to start up the Megami Tensei series. It's one of the few RPG series I have never played at least one of, save for DemiKids.

The issue is, I'm completely overwhelmed with the sheer number of titles. I've always been huge into plots, so I'd rather not jump out of place in the storyline.

Hopefully, some of you have some tips as to where to start in the series, since Megami Tensei seems extremely interesting.

Now, I know the first title was for the Famicon, and I heard there was a fan translation of it. Any clue as to where I could find that, or should I start somewhere else?

    Thanks in advance, guys.

Alright, so I'll head over to the Super Famicon SMTs first.

Now, I heard there has been multiple remakes of Shin Megami Tensei, namely on the PSX and GBA. Are those available in English, and would it be worthwhile to start with those instead?

Nothing's wrong with not playing every single SMT game out there, since most of them need an english fan patch anyway.

A lot of people recommend Nocturne, digital devil saga 1 & 2, and persona 3 and soon 4.

As you might already know though...Atlus is known to make their games very hard. One second you'll be crusing along, then the next you get 2 shotted ._.

If you're going after the persona series, get persona 3: FES instead of just the regular one if you can.

True. And SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1-2 requires grinding. More than any other single player rpg i've played. Be prepared D: .

This is because the original Megami Tensei games were actually created by Namco. It was later that Atlus bought the rights.

There's an OVA of the novel that Megami Tensei was based on, floating around. It's been fansubbed. You can try and find it if you really want. I've never seen it though.
I'm going to take a lok for the OVA in a bit. I would hate missing out on some info.
