I've got a little problem with my computer:
I bought a strip of new ram memory (1 gig pc3200) for my pc.
The store manager told me it could also be used in a pc2100 slot, so i tried it.
But when i installed it, (did everything by the book) my pc wouldn't start.
It gave me 3 short beeps wich stands for Base 64K RAM failure.
I took out the new ram and put the old one back in, but when I try to start it now, it gets as far as the brand screen, and after that it just turns black.
No matter what combination of memory i use, it just won't work.
If anyone can help me with this, I'd be so thankfull!!

    Oh, Computer specs are:

Compaq EVO (don't know exactly which type of EVO)
    Pentium 4 2.4 gHz
It used to have 768mb ram (pc2100), i tried 1 gig pc 3200 in combination with 512mb pc2100
Nvidia Geforce 6200 (256mb) videocard <- had just put this one in, didn't cause any trouble, but might be a crucial part in all of this.

    Thanks in advance,
    ~D
First, did you Clear all the static from your body, just touch the back of the pc a few times and rub it.

That normally is the reason(happend to me)

Also COMPAQ is a horrible PC company, they always sell crappy material.

also you cant mix and match your ram( its even worser with the pc you're doing it in) that is another reason.

If all fails return the ram and try again. Dont use the pc2100 ram either.

The salesman and the internet told me it was ok to mix different types of ram.
Th only disadvantage was that it would run at the speed of the slowest type,( pc2100 int this case)
If useing this type of ram was the cause of my computer crashing, could i get a compensation in the form of a repair?

The salesman is right, you can mix & match ram(provided your board supports it), but it's not as effective as matching ram.
