I played both and would say EQ2 for sure, just an easy game to play with a good community and a large community..

Reputation: 10vanguard fail so hard. poor optimization. crap game.
everquest 2 world is immersive and if you can set to extreme setting the graphic is incredible.
both is american mmo. the artwork is not sexy like asian mmos though.
I've played both a lot and would personally recommend going with Vanguard for simply the open world concept alone. EQ2 always had a restricted feeling to it when I played and they've made changes to it with the expansions that make the game feel a lot different because it is stat driven in the end game. Also the fact that if you expect to solo almost anything endgame in EQ2, even farming is extremely difficult due to some excessive changes in the game mechanics.
Then you haven't played since launch. Idiot.
Vanguard's community is rather small, but big enough for you to find a group almost anywhere. I would suggest joining a guild the first thing you do, because they will help you out with almost anything. Some bored level 50's have even made alts for each tier so they can help lowbies out. I'm currently on Xeth, seemed to be the most populated one.
I also suggest you to stay away from Sartok if you don't like hardcore, pure pvp. Here's what happened to me on Sartok.
Mkay, so I made a ranger, walked my own merry way and solo'd to level 7. So I walked to Tursh (starting village for thestran humans) to see what's on the broker. So I see a few level 50's by the broker, didn't think they would do anything. But boy, was I fooled. One turned around and laughed at me while the other one, also a ranger, was preparing his level 50 skill -___-. Then I died. I never came back. Ever.
So, if you're US, go with Xeth. Euro, go with Halgar or if you're EU and looking for the best community, go with Xeth :P The ping isn't so bad either, I live in Sweden and my ping is 120-150, barely noticeable lag. In fact, I haven't even sensed the tiniest bit of lag yet and I'm level 45.
I'd choose EQ2. Better classes, optimization, quests, dungeons, etc.
Reputation: 10EQ2 all the way, there is so much things to do. Customization is really awesome. 22 Clases, 24 races (or so), Tons of quest, really, go for EQ2, if u get on a good Guild, it get's really fun.
Vanguard felt too stiff for me, like it makes you think you have all these choices in combat, but really you don't
and everquest 2 i can't comment on.
VG, deffo. If you havent played after the launch, dont say anything because you dont know anything.
I played EQ2 and play now VG. VG is the better game.
But to judge for yourself:
http://vanguard.station.sony.com/isleofdawn/
You download & install which gives you the trial island, there you can level in all spheres to 10. Its a pretty accurate display of what the game offers with all advantages and disadvantages.
Most populated server is Seradon, european server is Halgar.
Reputation: 28Vanguard has an aweful engine. It will lag no matter what.
BUT! If you can run very very high end games, go for Vanguard. Its a rather amazing game.
BTW: if you do go for EQ2 then be prepared to update for a couple of days.
lol this topic has made me wanna re-activate my vanguard account, as said above a bunch a times if you havnt played it since launch give the game another shot, but ill prolly start playing it again now in a week :P
Edit: lol actually i cant even wait the week gonna start a trial while i wait :P damn
Yeah the launch was terrible. Lag/Empty Areas/Bugs up the ying-yang.
But man I still had loads of fun with diplomacy/politics/that dungeon (forgot its name) it just..well..Idk I couldnt take the lag and stuff.
I'd say Everquest 2, and you won't have to update for a couple days, I just installed it on another computer and the update lasted about 2 hours. Anyway if you decide to play you can find me! I play Tyndrus on Antonia Bayle.
