I actually believe that is false. Most of these "bloggers" don't really do just blogs, what they sell are add space and they make the money by knowing how to advertise. Usually they also have multiple websites or a advertising website. But even blogs like http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/ don't make that much.
Then again you got websites like 4chan which is almost the 100th most popular website in the US and can barely make enough money to keep the servers.
Edit: Oh okay 3million, yes that is quite easily possible if you know how to do it. But then those people are just doing 1 blog so that is pretty hardcore.
