Default music culture, your ideas needed

okay so i got a question

if a music originated, like hiphop, in america and by so called african americans

do you need to give credits to them when you appreciate other foreign music like .. lets say UK rap?

if another place makes rap to, is that claiming the hip hop culture as their own?

i guess you can acknowledge them for starting the kind of music they made but you dont need to praise them everytime you hear a rap song....if thats what your asking

Music is music. Enjoy it or hate it.

so it doesnt matter who originated it if i love pop music i dont need to give another credit just because the culture started from a specific race.
do you think race should be a matter ?

some douche said some irrelevant statement. he said the blacks suffered to get their freedom

so when phonies (how he says) claim black culture as their own, they are enslaving them once again... what the hell do he mean by phonies, how is UK rappers phony just because they share the passion

Nope. You don't. Just enjoy it, it's credit enough.

Sharing a passion has nothing to do with "claiming something as your own". I do not know where you picked up the urge to find a correlation between these two ideas, but there isn't any connection.

If I play the guitar and love it, does that mean I'm claiming I invented the guitar and its music? No.

Same goes for a specific genre of music.

I don't think every kid who likes modern/alternative metal (Which is the correct name for all these -core and post- genres) HAS to sit there and listen to Slayer, Metallica or Sabbath because they came first.

I don't even feel like respect needs to be paid. I personally like to know where things began, who pioneered or created what, and it earns my respect in most cases. That's my personal outlook.

It's a bit silly if you take it too far, because everything came from somewhere, and essentially you'll just end up going back to African pre-history where music was created.

I think it needs to be limited to genre really. Even then, you need to specify what credit you give.

Rappers' Delight by Sugarhill Gang is essentially the first hip hop song, but many, including myself, consider Run D.M.C. the group that definited, innovated and pushed hip hop forward as a music genre.

In metal, Black Sabbath were the first, but as above, you could argue it's easy to innovate if you're the first to do it. Many would consider Metallica or Slayer two of the most defining or influential metal bands due to what sprouted off them.

The Ramones are generally considered the first punk rock band, cementing punk from elements of "garage rock", nicknamed as "proto-punk" retrospectively. I respect people who define more than create, really. The Ramones may have created the base of punk rock, but you don't think of their kind of punk when you hear the word, you think of snarly, grimey dregs. That's why I have more respect for The Sex Pistols, because they defined and created what essentially became iconic and massively influential. The punk that came from them (Minor Threat, Black Flag etc) was much better than The Ramones' offshoots (NOFX etc).

    It all depends.

To that end, credit is different from respect.
