Co-authored books usually suck. I can't stand reading them. You can see the two influences of the author in the work, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but they don't always mix perfectly, or at all. Instead, it seems sort of schizophrenic, with one paragraph going one way, and the other paragraph going the other way.
But on subject, I don't think "changing the game plan" will help much. Either you have the discipline to be an author, or you don't, and adding "co-" to the author won't change that. First get the discipline, then try to be an author, or a co-author.
I think it was Edgar Allen Poe who said that writing is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.
