    Default Global Warming is 'irreversible'

    Global warming is 'irreversible'
A team of environmental researchers in the US has warned many effects of climate change are irreversible.

The scientists concluded global temperatures could remain high for 1,000 years, even if carbon emissions can somehow be halted.

Their report was sponsored by the US Department of Energy and comes as President Obama announces a review of vehicle emission standards.

It appears in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The scientists have been researching global warming and the consequences for policymakers.

The team warned that, if carbon levels in the atmosphere continued to rise, there would be less rainfall in already dry areas of southern Europe, North America, parts of Africa and Australia.

The scientists say the oceans are currently slowing down global warming by absorbing heat, but they will eventually release that heat back into the air.

They say politicians must now offset environmental damage already done by man-made pollution. "People have imagined that if we stopped emitting carbon dioxide the climate would go back to normal in 100 years, 200 year - that's not true," said researcher Susan Solomon, the lead author of the report, quoted by AP news agency.

Their conclusions come as President Obama ordered the US Environmental Protection Agency to review rules on carbon emissions from passenger vehicles.

If Global Warming is occuring, explain to me why some parts of the world are recieving records LOWS.
    Well, I will be waiting for a chance to read your doctor thesis on the subject soon;

But every day it won't come, I will feel better about myself, just because of that fact.

    LMAO...

And I'll laugh when in time this whole thing is proven to be either a hoax or a complete misunderstanding. If it's happening, it's natural, not something man has caused, and if it's natural, it's not something man can fix.

I'm not surprised, if you think about it, 1000 years really isn't much in geological time. Although a lot of people are too crazy about stopping global warming. There are too many doomsayers. For all we know a pattern of extreme cooling is coming in the next 10 years and global warming won't matter anymore.

No you are talking with the 1% of scientists who believe that humans don't impact the earth in any way. Note that most of those scientists do not specialize in this field though.
The earth does go through cycles no one doubts that, but humans have impacts on the atmosphere.

I don't like this study as I love the idea of recreating the atmosphere and terraform Mars. I'm just hoping it doesn't take 1000 years LOL.

Because if history has taught us nothing else, it's that the news stations are 100% impartial without any bias or agenda.

Global warming is or isn't as much of a threat as people are saying...or it's a problem, but not one as catastrophic as they would have us believe.

It has become too much of a confused issue at this point in time. Everybody has something to gain with either outcome, so I doubt we'll get a concrete answer at any point.

Yes, because when a car spews out CO2, it immediately takes affect. HURR DURR!

No. It takes 10s of thousands of years for something like this to occur, and unless my chronology is somehow wrong, I don't think Mozes crossed to the promise lands in a jeep.

But whatever, way to stunt Africa's industrial development. It's not like they don't need it, right?

    Just two things.

The term "Global Warming" means that the entire earth's average is increasing, which it IS. But because the way climate works, what is more prominent to the typical person is extreme weather. Greater colds, greater heats, and stronger storms, depending on your region, which is a direct effect of Global Warming.
Stop thinking that global warming = tropical weather.
It does not mean that at all.
Global Warming is extreme weather which is caused by a climate reaction of a minimal increase of the global temp average.

Those record lows are evidence of Global Warming.

Also, when it comes to Global Warming, it's not earth the scientists are worried about.
If we laid out every single nuke to provide the best coverage of the earth and let them all go off at the same time, the earth will be fine. Nature will be damaged, yes, but not dead. It will be a stubbed toe for planet Earth. Give it time and she'll come right back and the planet will flourish again.
What will be missing though, is us.
It's not a question of if the planet will survive, but if we, the human race, will survive.

    So... will we?

You probably haven't heard of them because they're more behind the scenes and pretty old. Al Gore is kinda like a trophy they have sitting out in front.

But yeah, I guess he told the weather in America and founded a network on it so he's obviously a liar at every turn. Just a completely made-up article.

What would he have to gain by making it all up? He's a guy who knows his shit, and I don't understand why he would go out of his way to put down global warming with a lifetime of studying weather under his belt.

But hey, what do I know, I'm from America. Like I said, arguing with a brick wall.

I know you think you're 100% right no matter what, feel free to think that with what you think is backing it up so absolutely that it -must- be true.
