Wait... What? Human males have the Y-chromosome at conception, it may not be used until later in the development after the X has already started its business (I don't know) but we don't suddenly gain an extra chromosome.
Females are the template though, males are modified females.
Random factoid: Where the chromosomes come from does matter. A test on mice that were created using two female eggs (combined into one egg) or two sperm (combined into one egg) had dramatically different results. The two female parents resulted in a mouse with a giant head, but very low interdigitation of the placenta and the uterus; while the two male parents ended up with a small head but extreme interdigitation between the placenta and uterus. Both types of offspring were not viable (The male version might have led to excessive bleeding during birth and might have led to the host-mother dying, I can't remember). Too lazy to look up source paper.
