Reputation: 372Although cloning things that are already extinct is pretty cool, I think it would be much cooler to create new species, new beings with gene technology.
Like a polar bear/elephant, or an eagle/shark. Now that would be super-awesome and made of so much win it can't even be described with regular words.

Alternatively, my sloth/elephant/hyena which will be the largest laughing and smiling killing-machine known to man.
Seriously, what is there not to love about progress on the field of genetic enginering! I want to make abominations! IGOR, man the life-generator!!! *ZAAAAAAAAP* Weeeee!!!!!

Reputation: 26I'm personally not sure how cloning is at all effective in resurrecting a specie of animal.
By producing animals simply by cloning, all the animals will have the exact same genes and traits, leading to incest and shit.
The gene pool would be so narrow that a simple disease could VERY easily, quickly, and effectively wipe out the specie once again.
Similar to the tasmanian devil epidemic, in which the species was so inbred that a form of contagious cancer ravaged the population.
