Default did i make the right choice?

so my dad finally decided to go to the store to buy a laptop for my mother
after a while of looking around i doubted between these two:

    laptop A:
    intel T5800
    4gbs ram
    9600gt 512mb
    320gb hdd
    vista home premium 32bit

    laptop B:
    intel T9300
    3gbs ram
    8600gt 512mb
    2x 250gb
    vista home premium 32bit

so ive decided to go for laptop b, because the differnce between the cpus was bigger then those of the gpu, it has a bigger total hdd space, and the differnce between 4gb and 3gb ram on 32bit systems are basically non existant

did i make the right choice? i just want to be sure, and its for my mom, so its more for the internet then gaming (gaming is only for me during the vacation when im not at home)

I would go for something more portable.

Stats are less important than seize, screen and build imo.

Hit the nail on the hammer's head right there.

With a laptop, it's all about the weight and size over the power and stats. Especially if it's mostly for internet and not for gaming.

    its a 17" screen

its not to go carry it around everywhere my mother goes as it was meant for my mom to learn to use the internet and be capable to skype my aunts etc

if that is all you need the computer for then you might as well buy the cheapest laptop possible since any laptop can browse the internet and use skype.

get those cheap $400-$500 USD ones.

might as well rewrite everything as my sugar isnt low like when i wrote the op, adn rename the title to; "which laptop would you pick"

so basically, its for my mom to use at home, for her its for the internet, skype and stuff. it will mainly be at one place and thus wont be moved around alot. when it moves, my mom will ask me or my father to move it, or she will do it herself when she feels like to. its not that heavy either
then on vacation its mainly for me but also my mom. its for my mom so she can skype my father (cheaper then an international phone call), and for me so i can game while were on vacation. my father said it would be okay, i asked my mom and she was fine with it too. were only about 6-8 weeks on year on vacation (2 weeks at one time at most)

one of the other reasons i picked these two was, looking at the prices in the store, they would be the best compared to the other ones in price and hardware. not to mention the other laptop had a 18.7" screen.

i hope its a bit more cleared up right now

    Well, I would think it through and look at it with caution;
Thing is you will pay more money in total, if you have to order a replacement battery in 8 month, because it failed and was not covered by the guarantee, than you might have invested in a laptop known to be reliable.

There is the chance that you will be fine, but notebooks are kinda sensitive in that direction.

I checked around the net for about 2 month to make sure I was going with a product, that I would not have to worry about anymore.
When I was fairly certain, I still ordered from a shop with a longer lasting guarantee and needless to say how those things go, I already sent it in just a few weeks after I got it.

If you have bought a faulty laptop and you have to pay for it because your customer support is shit, you are double crossed, when you could have gone for a better option for the start.

If however it' not going to be "on duty" 24/7, it's not that big a deal.

I wish you and your family best luck if you decide to get it, I would even be interested in what you think about it after having tested it out, I hear they put a lot of bloat ware and add-crap on the installations, but I really can't see it being as bad as how Sony does that.

Well, I hope everything just works....
