Seems right to me. FFXI>L2. L2 is only good on med/high rate servers. Even then, its barely as good as FFXI.

    L2 > FFXI.

But then again you're comparing a PVP game to a PVE game.

Comes down to if you want to mindlessy grind to kill other people or to do it again on another job.

I'm sure he'd love to find out you have to go through the SAME AREAS at least TWICE to be viable in PVE.

The grind for L2 I can put with more than the waiting 2-8 hours for a party in FFXI level 60+ to grind with.

Very dumb to compare the two games. FFXI imo is the single best PvE game available on the market. L2 is a PvP-Centric game that is very lacking in content, but still fun to play. Choosing between the two games is mainly about which you prefer... PvE or PvP.

I wouldn't say L2 is lacking in content.. but all the pvp is.. hunting.. no storyline..

    I love stories

Pfft, It's impossible to finish FFXI Grind in 5 years. I loved that game, although it was too hard to find a party and I really didn't have the time to wait for one.

    Two different animals.

It's like comparing a yak to a snake.

Herbivore = FFXI = PVE game?

    Carnivore = L2 = PVP game?

    *looks at page 2* ...

If WoW was involved, this would be page 20 or locked by now.

I don't like L2 either, but L2 does not lack contents. It has tons of contents, more than most MMOs.
Well, I am guessing you and I played different versions of L2 and FFXI.

L2 content is your basic EQ Classic Kill X, Fed-Ex, and Find X quest scheme with some storyline quest or class quests built in to mix it up a bit. Overall the game revolves around PvP as your focus as endgame PvE content is quite scarce. Although, some would argue the upgrading of your equipment is a ridiculous quest upon itself. I will give you that L2 beats a lot of games in content, but in all fairness that isn't hard to do.

FFXI has those basic quest elements as well, but then overwhelms and saturates you with the story based questing. Only mentioning in passing the AF quests, NM's aspect, Flying license, ranks, etc... The game is simply massive in PvE content. Hell, the fishing in the game is more complex and satisfying than most game content in todays MMORPG's.

    Sounds about right.

    Content > Emptiness after all.

If anything if you wanted an mmorpg to be PVP oriented, you should do away with a massive grind like L2 has and just use something like PVP levels, the more PVP kills you get, the high PVP level you are, allowing you access to more gear.

But, I suppose that's a bit too PVP oriented for these apparent 'PVP oriented' games.
Actually, there are L2 servers like that. You're max level and the only way to get the good gear is to do TvT matches to get tokens, which you trade in for gears and enchants. But the problem with that is balance. You HAVE to pvp people who have been there longer and have the best gear to try and get the gear yourself.

You need to be able to get gear another way to be able to fend for yourself in PVP. Hence why there's PVE.

And there needs to be some grind or the game isn't fun. Excessive grind? No. But there has to be some.
If there's no PVE there's also no world PVP.

Still takes you 3 years of very non-PVP 'content' to get max level.

    No thanks.

Please note, 3 years is an exaggeration.

In L2 the PVP is open. I'm level 28 and i've had some fights in Execution Grounds(A leveling spot) already.

And on the old servers I used to play on there was plenty of PVP going on in random places.

It intensifies around level 50-60 though, not max level.

You'll still probably die of boredom before getting that. I mean, pressing 1, clicking, then pressing 2, only gets so interesting for so long if you know what I mean.
