Default Burned out MMOer: But I still want to MMO!

Ok, here's the situation I'm in at the moment. My wife and I are looking for an MMO we can enjoy playing solo/duo. We like mob grinding, but not when its a slow treadmill. We like fantasy, though that is not an absolute requirement. We don't mind returning to an MMO we already played, if they've improved it significantly in the last 6-12 months.

We played LOTRO for a few months, but I don't know if they've really done much to make the advancement process more fun. I don't want another WOW quest grind.

We played AOC, but really hated a zillion different things about it.

We played WOW, multiple times, but starting up WoW is such a chore. You have to do a crapton of UI modding, and you know that in the end, all that will happen is you'll hit cap in a few weeks and be forced to either join a raid guild or sit around like a chump.

We played EQ2 multiple times, but we really don't know if there's anything really new left to do there.

We played WAR for a few months after release, but the crappy state of T4 and the insane amounts of CC just made high end RvR a drag.

Yeah, I realize I am being very negative here. I'm sorry for that.

Are there any MMOs out there of this general type I've missed that we should try? Anything that's friendly to duoing groups that want some fun, mob killing action?

We generally play a tank/dps and healer/support combo.

Urg. Was going to mention Final Fantasy XI, but you guys aren't into slow soloing and duoing, right? Although, in a party, the sparks can fly very fast. And at higher levels, monsters (that aren't bosses) can fall quickly. Well, good luck. Don't know what I can recommend--unless you want to try an F2P game like Mabinogi, for instance.

Flyff could be pretty fun if you play duo a fighter and an Assist(Buffer,Healer)
There maybe some grind but that wont be a problem when your 2 people (you wont get bored)

Try something different like PSO:BB or Guildwar?
There's also Aion online, if you still like something similar.

More negativity from me, sorry =>

City of Heroes: Yeah. 3 or 4 different times. I have 6 or 7 lvl 50s, all IOd out.

FFIX: We also did FFIX and hated it.

Guild Wars: I love their business model and a lot of things about their game design. We actually played it at release, but it was almost TOO heavily instanced and I remember never feeling like my levels mattered at all (good for PvP, but not so much for PvE). Very cool concept for a game, it just never seemed to fit for us. Maybe it changed?

    POSITIVE STUFF! YAY! =>

    What is Flyff?

Aion Online is out? I thought that was only in Asia?

PSO BB? I loved PSO for the dreamcast.

F2P games are definitely an option. We played 2Moons and liked it (even bought some credits), but ultimately there just was not enough variety in zones. We were constantly in a position where we had to grind the same zone over and over and over again for 10 levels before we'd even be ALLOWED to move to the next zone.

Thanks for the tons of responses. I know my original post was kinda whiny... I apologize for that.

Sorry, Aion online is only in Korea.
PSO: BB is not a dreamcast for PSO.
PSO: BB is PSO: BB. Google it.
Official server went down but you still can play it.

There's 4story and Perfect World which is like WoW.

As per I recall, the official servers to PSO:BB shut down, but didn't Schthack buy the rights to it?

Anyway. You guys hate monotonous games that seem pointless, right? If that's the case, I can only think of a few games, and I'm not sure if anyone on the site would agree with me on either of them.

The first is Ragnarok Online, one of the only online games to grab my interest time and time again. The game does have some grinding, but, for an older game, there's still some fun to it. This game should, in my opinion, be played if you're partying. It gives it so much more entertainment value, and you can accomplish much more.

The only other one I've got is Mabinogi, but I'm doubting either of you would enjoy it.. the game comes down to grinding at certain points. I say that as a supporter of the game; sometimes, it's just a massive bloody grind.

Well, it would appear as though your best bet is going to be PSO:BB. I'd post a link, but for whatever reason, OnRPG seems to be against the posting of links. So, it looks like you'll just have to Google one of the key words (Schthack). Also, should you happen to find an online game that no one could think of, post it.

(Note that I'm generally a soloist in online games, but, *ahem* someone is changing that fact for me. So, I apologize if none of these suggestions helped.)
