Reputation: 10I played COH for 2 weeks, with the trial.
It was good I wanted to actually continued, but parents wouldn't let me subscribe so yeah.
From where I live (Australia) the community was active early in the morning.
It wasn't hard for me to find a guild, everyone was very welcoming and helpful. If you find a group to train with, it'll be more fun then going solo.
You should try it before you buy it.
Reputation: 206City of heroes has the best community I've ever touched. At least 80% of anyone in the broadcasting area will help if you have a valid question. Teams are always available, at low levels in particular and it's overall friendly.
If you don't teamplay, you won't enjoy the game. Using your abilities in combination with another heroes to overcome a bigger challenge is standard for almost any MMO but City of heroes does have some powersets that are more team oriented. An example would be a Trick arrow powerset using oil slick to trip up enemies, the obvious followup would be to use flame around it for added damage. I can keep going about that if need be.
Content seems to take a leap every new issue or so. As of now the majority of content doesn't open up until you go beyond level 14. That's when the task forces and bigger forces of evil step into play. You move from pursesnatchers to giant robots. Not to mention the upcoming issue will allow for you to create your own story arcs. There's a dayjob system that gives bonuses based on where you log out. A level sync system to keep you on the same degree as friends (even though I hate it) along with a ton of storyline effects that I can also go into if need be.
The events are a big part of the game as well. From player run events like costume contests and trivia, to holiday events worked into the game. The events obviously sync with the holidays, Like The Winter Lord around x-mas time.
I'm 50-50 about it being worth buying though. I cherish the game and all it has to offer, it's not at all underpopulated nor does it get boring. But I'm curious about waiting for newer superhero titles, to see if they give more bang for the buck. If you're not interested in waiting, It's definitely worthwhile.
Reputation: 151Community dwindled to a pathetic amount.
Yes, the only real useless class is a scrapper in my opinion, all other classes are crucial to a party.
Not really, PvE all day and boring PvP.
Nothing special, sometimes rare summoned monsters, sometimes player held costume contests.
I would say no, I'd wait for Champions Online.
Anyone got a trial they can send me?
1. ehh i dunno martial arts scrapper isn't too fun imo but ive seen some that love em
2. the community is great very friendly and lots of couples play together (if you have a special someone get her to play coh) and if not you can still enjoy their company its fun stuff
3. yea basically throughout the game ppl wont do missions without a team and teams stick together for hours...once i was in a team with the same people for about 5 hours...when i got up from my chair my rectum was in pain
4. theres tons of content and theyre still updating more and more....im sure the game can keep you occupied for about 4 months if you strictly want to rush through everything your first time....but if you play the game to its full extent you'd be on it for ages.
5. events are great..honestly theres no game that can compete with the events for this game..not even world of warcraft tbh...for halloween you can even go trick or treating! lol.....pretty much for every holiday and other important events there are great events in this game...and theres another thing called rikti invasions which are like mini events that happen in random areas at random times and tons of aliens come and attack the city and groups of heroes band together to wipe them out.
honestly city of heroes is the greatest mmo to play if your a fan of comics...a fan of super powers....a fan of customization....or anyone with a huge imagination....but to the general mmo market its just above average....but its honestly a great game and my fav. mmo of all time
and for your trial

edit- one more thing..the next free expansion coming out is going to allow you to create missions along with the story of the mission and the villains to be placed in it...it shall be epic...and you can also dual spec your toon at no cost you can do it after a certain lvl though
btw the games 20 bucks you can get it for under 5 bucks if you check out amazon.com or even ebay
I tried CO, hit level 43 on my crit dualie.
Didn't like it all too much.
Reputation: 10Bry hit me up if you're gonna play, I'll get you in my super group as well. I'm having a lot of fun taking screenshots while in a huge mission w/ like 8 other people. xD and I like how it feels like GTA except... w/ heroes... oh I'm a villain btw... so if you're rolling hero, we'll just have to meet in the war map. I disagree w/ the pvp being boring, it actually feels skill based and strategy needs to be applied... holders will disable damage dealers, and well pretty much the tank is there to throw people around and tank damage. I'm playing a stalker though... so... I just do awesome single target spike damage.

Reputation: 20Isn't this game very underpopulated it only has 13,000 subscribers.
Other than that the game looks amazing, you should try it, its not like you'll losing anything maybe 15 dollars thats it.
EDIT: What the trial like? I'm thinking of trying it.
How is the community?I've recently been taking an eye at City of Heroes, a game that I tried a couple times and did enjoy. I've been deciding whether or not I should buy it and play it for a month or two and see how it goes. I want to roll as a Martial Arts Scrapper.
Well, last time i played the european servers where empty but then i played the us trial and the servers where full, i have no idea how its now since i played years ago
Is there teamplay emphasis?
yes actualy
Plenty of content?
heroes, Villians, bases (raids-ish)
fun missions, fun ways of transportaion lol (fly, super speed, Leap etc)
How are all of the events?
many of them are fun, last time i got a jetpack for christmas lol(was low lvl had only the slow fly then)there even where some events you got a fire extinguisher and had to save ppl in the house lol
Is it still worth buying?
according to me, yes
i would do it myslef but last time i wasent using this comp
andsince its shitty it cant run COH smoothly and crashes (graphics card sux ordered new one)
