This reeks of a marketing scheme thought up by anti-virus companies and Microsoft.

judging from previous wormage of this magnitude, i doubt that this worm has the purpose of merely harming home computers.

you'll probably just turn your computer on and find that it is now a zombie machine taking part in a massive DDoS attack, along with the rest of a huge botnet.

if it was mine, it would be sending selected pieces of your personal details to a few boxes around world, things like logins, passwords, credit card details.

i'd recommend hiding inside sandboxie until this blows over.

    not enough Vitamin C. :3

but in all seriousness, i'll have a look around and get back to you on that one.

i know a couple virus writers that might have some details.

    edit:

it would seem all the worrying could be over, they found a fingerprint to work on:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/03...ure_discovery/

    and to answer your question:

Conficker spreads through several update mechanisms, a well-known Windows vulnerability and tainted USB drives being just two.

Yes, it's a caterpie. When it evolves, it turn into butterfree.

The flap of a butterfree's wings changed the air around it so much that a tornado broke out two continents away.

very funny. if you are not a IT student or someone who has never read about virus evolving, here's a good article:

    http://siebelanswers.com/history-of-computer-viruses

and stop making yourself look like a fool.
