    Default Grahpics card question

Well, I'm not getting a quick answer in tech support and my parents need an answer.

    Paste:

Hey, well my birthday is around the corner and I was wondering again what card I should ask for. I only have one card slot and I want it to be a noticeable upgrade from an ATI radeon HD 3400 series.

    Preferably Nvidia, preferably somewhat cheap.

    Thanks in advance!

Also. I have 6gbs of ram and a 2.3 quad processor. Is my graphics card the only thing keeping me from running Assassin's Creed well on medium detail? And keeping me from going above 40 FPS in WoW?

A GF9800GT is around 100$, i'd go for it. I was able to play assassins creed on high with it.
And its kinda cheap compared to the high end gfx monsters nowadays.

Well the RAM might be good, but you didn't say the speed of it.
Also, I would suggest to overclock the processor a little, maybe to 2.6/7? Then you whon't have a problem handling Assasins Creed, although if you think about it, Assasins Creed is quite old

The new geforce gts 250 would be a good choice I think. It costs around 150$ and outperforms gf9800gtx. The problem with assassin's creed is probably a problem with a bad engine optimization. And you should check if you have shadows on the highest in WoW. They added quite a bit new shadows in WotLK and it takes a lot from the comp to run them with high fps.

It's only a year old for PCs, while it's 2 years old for consoles.

The newer video cards support HD, also I've seen games stutter on consoles; and if consoles were the be all end all; then there wouldn't be any games made for computers anymore!

I just got a 9800gt 512mb and I can run Crysis on high with higher than 30FPS and my specs are lower than yours.
ATM I can run AoC with DX10 and get 40-50FPS.

The cheapest one. they are basiclly all the same except the fans (some are loud, some are silent) But i can recommend you the EVGA and the Zotac one.

Try to get something from the company XFX, they seem to have the best warrenty when it comes to graphics cards:

Agree with that. XFX ( so do Zotac and EVGA) offer a lifetime warranty on all of their cards

o_O I have 1gb ram, ATI radeon 2600 HD PRO a Dual core (3.0 GHz) each and I can run AC maxed with no lag. There is something seriously wrong with you pc.

the nvidia 9series cards are your best bet but if you can get a branded version of it like mrtingting said EVGA are very good for supplying high performance cards!

I wish XFX would have come out with their 4870 X2 when I purchased the stuff for my PC, however they did a month later and it was to late.

If I was to remove the heatsinks on my Sapphire card, I void the warrenty...if you remove the heatsinks on the XFX card; the warrenty is still in play!
