    Default Guild Wars

Probably the only MMORPG that involves investing money I've never played before. Am I missing out? Everything is so boring, and my buddy and I are looking for a game to play. It's either back to AoC, which was the main decision, but I was wondering how Guild Wars was? Let me know. Just felt like I'd get a better, unbiased opinion of the community here rather than at the GW forums. Thanks for your time.

The game is pretty good. The only problems I have with the game are the annoying difficulty curve and small selection of weapons.

Huh? How far did you get? The game has quite a large selection of weapons.

The game is great, specially if you're into PvP, and the story will keep you playing for at least few weeks even if you're not really into it. All expansions combined will take maybe 2 months to complete if you don't rush it.
As far as I know GW has far more weapon selections then AoC.

Yeah I am always hearing about this. Can you elaborate? People say this game is extremely skill-based <3, which I can't seem to tell why from videos and whatnot, and that it's hard to get really good. Why is this?

The farthest I've gotten in any of the campaigns is to the Realm of Torment in Nightfall. I checked the Guild Wars Wiki to see which weapon I was going to upgrade to when I saw that there's 20+ versions of each weapon type, but they all do the same damage and can be gained at the same level and the only difference between any of them is a small, borderline useless additional magic effect and the weapon model.

So your basing the difference off damage? Most of GWs damage is skill damage weapon damage caps really low, and most of those "useless" effects are useful.

It requires timing, knowledge, and a good build.

Guild Wars is the only mmorpg I bought. It is pretty AWESOME, in my experience. There is room for any type of player, weather if it is you want an expansive and vast PvE, or some noob killing PvP. Now, the skill system isn't the best. You can customize your own build(Skils), but most players use the ones that everyone else use, so Pvp can get annoying, but for PvE it is pretty fun. The story is pretty good, and their isn't anything like grinding. I personally think its fun, but its not as well if you don't have nightfall and factions.

Well the same damage is obvious because they don't want weapons to be a problem in the game, one being overpowered than another..
Although different weapons like axes, swords and hammers have different damage but the item type themselves all have the same damage at max.

The learning curve is hard at first but there's no reason to be GOOD in this game unless u want to learn to PvP. However, there is tutorials in the game if u buy Nightfall which is quite newb friendly because you gain heroes in that campaign as well and Prophecies because it was the first game..

If i find some trials ill give it to you or you can search online for them.. but overall i enjoyed the game.. especially with a guild, hence the name Guild Wars.

But the problem is that getting the best weapon in the game is far too easy and you won't make very much progress with your equipment after that. Sure, it was nice when they made you reach the level cap over the weekend, but I just have a lot of trouble getting into a game if I don't have some kind of progress.

Higher level/rarer weapons are always stronger in games. Doesn't mean they're overpowered, just means you have something to strive for. But the difficulty curve really became a problem to me. It seemed like ever other story mission set me up against an incredibly unfair boss/mobs. None of the tutorials I found really helped the problem. If you know of any good ones, I'd love to check it out.

That is why titles are there for.. i guess, since they are implementing the titles earned in Guild wars as rewards for old players in GW2
Also if u have EOTN, the HoM adds bonuses as well(adding armor, elite weapons and titles and minipets and hero armor)
These bonuses are as the same as above, for GW2

Well I don't really like working on my titles that much. I much prefer working for something that makes me look/fight better. I've also never played Eye of the North. I have it, but I decided to wait until I beat nightfall to try it out.

Its a really cool game and in the US, you can get all 3 Guild Wars games on one DVD now. The box says Guild Wars: Trilogy on it and its only 50 bucks. Plus you get a lot cool in-game items too. I bought it at Best Buy, back in February of this year. Glad I waited to buy the game, because each game used to cost 50 bucks each. So I say, if you got the 50 bucks. Go for it. Plus its free to play. What more can you ask for?

The AI of GW is really very good, better than other mmorpgs I've seen. Monsters come in parties sometimes with support classes, and they actually will cooperate with each other, adds some challenge and fun.

Heh that trial was what got me to buy GW. Just got it last week and love it. The storyline is great but it just take soo long... Been a week and just reached halfway to the end today for Nightfall. Then again, I'm trying to do every secondary quest which offers no decent rewards other than gold and exp.

I don't regret buying it. I just regret it took me a long time to get it.
