Your stomach creates a lot of digestive juices for the food. When it stops receiving food it stops creating these (so as not to just digest your stomach lining. It also starts to shrink. Once you go past the 24 hour (or so) mark, your brain does also start switching off the hunger signals, but it does become genuinely hard to eat, and as your stomach starts up again, it will make a lot of noises, and make you feel nauseous. The only way to get hungry again is to eat.
Just start with something small. Something easy to eat, even it it has to be cake of chocolate or sh-t like that. I usually go for bread or something. Just eat small mouthfulls, a bit at a time over a few minutes. Then something like a bowl of cereal (as said above) is usually good.
Once you've got a bit of food in there, you'll be ready for a snack in an hour of two, then you'll start to get really hungry for a meal a couple of hours after that.
Protip: Don't starve yourself. Get over your pride or whatever and ask your friend for a snack.
