Reputation: 72Is it a big deal O.o? I would HATE to be the developers of a game like this. LOTRO and Star wars dev teams are just scary. If they do anything wrong or add anything different people get annoyed =/ (not directed at you cinder but your post just made me think of it :P)
I remember reading a thread about rune priests in LOTRO....loyal fans.....
Thanks for the info anyway.
Reputation: 49if a Jedi/Sith can not wftpwn 20 of those in under 5 seconds, it sucks from a roleplaying (and IP) perspective
if they can,it sucks from a gameplay perspective
tough luck for Bioware...

Reputation: 72Yep you pretty much summed up why making an mmorpg that doesnt consist of just jedi's and sith is impossible. Without them people wouldnt play it with them people will complain. Dunno why they didnt just keep it to just jedi and sith though.
Although that would make it limited to 3 classes for each side? Counselor, Guardian, Sentinel.
Reputation: 49u can always subdivide them in force "paths":
- ranged (ray,choke, pull,push)
- acrobatics (force jump, levitation)
- melee (dual swords)
- force heal
- diplomacy (mind control)
etc

Reputation: 72Very good idea and would work great with a Kotor game.
Would kill abit of the customization that you can do in kotor but thats bound to happen no matter what with an mmorpg
I bet theres a reason to why they havent released class information about the Jedi/Sith even though they are a 100% must in the game. You would think they would be released instead of the Bounty Hunter and Trooper but meh. Companies think like idiots nowadays.
Reputation: 167I find all of you quite amusing with the current comment.
You apparently dont understand the mechanics of the SW universe. If you read more into the SW lore, you will discover that there were bounty hunters who were able to use light sabres and were not force sensitive. There were certain troopers who were able to headshot force sensitive players.
Being force sensitive (Jedi or Sith) does not make you a one man army.
Besides, what you saw the Trooper do is something that it does when the player is idle. I am suprised you never seen any other (IRL) military groups do this.
Hell, in the Navy, when we did our marches I was point. We were able to give a bit of "flash" to our unit's march.
Players who think they can think like developers and publishers are idiots as well.
As for you other point... You will discover that many players will tweak their force senisitive characters to being specific roles within their career path. Its not going to be uncommon to see a field medic along side a force healer tweak.
If you did those sub classes skills would be very limited then.. I mean how much of force powers could you have for each sub? Barely any I suppose..
Reputation: 72Yet in many of the released Star wars games it was mainly the fact that jedi's are godlike and troopers were just saber food. Am i wrong? Name one Star Wars game that has not made jedi's godlike just one. Even battlefield where you had to be the troopers etc killing a jedi was impossible wasnt it?
I dont know much about the lore so ill probably get smashed by your knowledge but ive played my fair share of star wars games and ive never seen this implemented
I never said i could think like them i just liked his idea. Plus if you read his comment he was talking about the playerbase. Safe to say Arc's comment was valid.
Reputation: 167Try playing actual RPGs, not the console based ones. I always played a Zabrek Gambler and I was always the one in the party who got the group out of a situation.
I was not force sensitive, nor was I a person who tweaked his skills to do great melee or ranged combat. With the stats I had, I was virtually immune to Jedi mind games and was able to talk anyone into doing what I need them to do in order to make sure the group did their mission.
I did have problems with the Jedi wookie though (my brother), very easily angered.
Now if you dont think table top RPG cannot apply to MMORPGs, then you are wrong. The mechanics are relativly the same for both. The comparison of limitations to both are not.
Also, there are a lot more table top Star Wars games out there than any console/PC. Your're just one of those who chose to stay with digital media of entertainment because its mainly simple to use.
Reputation: 72You do know that thats not how the world works. We choose to use what we are introduced to. I was born in 1990 so when my gaming years started it was all about the digital stuff. The only tabletop games you would see me playing were monopoly.
Your an older person so you lived when tabletop was still in its prime and many people were still playing it. It has nothing to do with simplicity its about what the gaming world is like now. Playing games like DnD are hard now due to everyone rather staying in their house and playing games like WoW.
Please tell me if im wrong.
DnD and Warhammer tabletop RPG is still making millions for their publishers. I still see more people playing tabletop games than console/PC based ones. The collectible card game genre is still making millions.
And comparing how many gaming conventions they have for tabletop than to console/PC, its an average of 3-1.
Up in St. Louis I see one electronic gaming convention a year. As for tabletop gaming, I find conventions for it in St. Louis 2-3 times a year and in many other cities in Missouri.
Reputation: 72Dude ignore the fact that you want to argue and hear me out.
Over here in the UK the only tabletop RPG that is promoted in the slightest is Warhammer and even then all it has is a few shops shop if i didnt read into it myself i would have thought it was just toys like a lot of people around here.
There are no conventions for it here hence why i wouldnt get into tabletop at my age. Just because i said its outdated doesnt mean it doesnt make millions mumbling up my post. The fact is that tabletop has a loyal community but loyal as it is you will not see many people MY AGE suddenly picking it up. Especially not where i live.
America seems to do well with these type of things and are able to still promote them well.
If the mechanics are done right with the professions. You will see that Jedi/Sith are only as good as the player playing them. If the levels are relatively the same, it will only come down to skill. Not the fact that one person is a Jedi/Sith.
This game is going to be P2P right?
Reputation: 20Maybe it's just me, but, I get the feeling this game is going to play a lot like Tabula Rasa.
Not that that's a bad thing or anything, just, I found the shooting a bit clunky.
Although, it's a bit early to make an kind of judgement like that.
I know my friend will buy the game the second it releases, so, I'll probably give it a try.
Reputation: 30pretty much any marine can do that. are you saying they should not be doing that or can't do it?
did you ever play starwars republic commando(get it if you haven't!)? those guys are pretty elite. if you play as just a normal grunt then yea...1 uber jedi(luke, vader etc) should be able to wipe out 50 at once.
i would imagine we have never seen many republic troopers at a ceremony.
pal, the gameplay could be EXACTLY like kotor and i would still buy it. the storyline is what makes these games so amazing. they say the storyline of this one faaar exceeds the other 2 combined, while also changing with the choices you make. not to mention they will constantly update it as the game matures.
all of this is true, not to mention not every jedi is a darth vader or luke skywalker. you see TONS of jedi get pwned by some random scrub with a blaster. being a jedi doesn't make you invincible.
i disagree with this one 100%. i don't play tabletop games because i find them boring, not because they're too complex for me. i'm sure 99% of other gamers who don't play tabletop feel the exact same way. you COULD say we don't have the imagination for it.

More on topic now! I'm glad they're sticking this class in there, or rather, keeping it the way it has traditionally been (Though under different names.). This will probably be my class of choice once the game launches, as nothing says badass like a blaster the size of an Ewok.
