Isn't FFXI closing down once their other game gets finished/released?

This is a dumb idea, unless they significantly scale up the graphics to the point where it actually looks good on a PS3 it's just a waste of time. Otherwise their only target consumer base are people who traded or sold their PS2 for a PS3 that can't play PS2 games. They'd be better of porting the game to PSP or something.
Reputation: 192Nope with this comming, and the mini-expansions.
And the promise from square to all the players. And that they still support it like a baby.
Its not going to shut down, they are even developing all sorts of new content for it.
720p 1080p native would be nice. And its not a dumb idea actually. I for one would love to play it on my console. even rather than on my PC because this game really is meant to be played on a console.
A good resolution, perhaps a little AA or not. Its good eneugh for me.
Reputation: 162I really don't think it's the right MMO to be ported on consoles for the western market.
Also I can't imagine the 360 and PS3 users will join together and dance in roses slaying monsters happily while having a lovely little not-at-all biased chat about the upcoming E3.
My point still stands, all you have proven is that you fall into the target consumer base which is extremely small. The idea might not seem dumb to you because you fall into the demographic of somehow not owning a console capable of playing FFXI, would rather not play on the PC, and somehow would pay for the exact same game again just to play it on the PS3. That particular demographic is so small that everyone else who plays the game would consider it a bad idea in lieu of using the time spent to make the game better some other way.
The fact is, unless they completely re-haul the graphics engine that FFXI uses, it's not going to look much better on the PS3 and will just be a waste of potential. While playing FFXI on the PC and using windower to go above and beyond what the game was meant to display, and using my GPU control center to set the anti-aliasing to 12x, the game still didn't look that great. No amount of anti-aliasing will be able to stop my eyes from bleeding while running around South Gustaberg. The "shimmer" of all the lines drawn into the rocky walls is just simply too bad to fix with anti-aliasing, no matter how great it is.
Reputation: 192There are guides for how to tweak your settings correctly and on a good pc you will need that.
If you have 1024 X 786 you can set the backgroud res to .. 2048 x 2048 (example)
That already sharpens the game up ALOT. personally
The game is really weird when it comes to settings at PC, but there are guides.
But I preffer Gameplay over graphics
The games potentail isn't small it peaked this aprill. most active users ever in FFXI. that should mean that its still not too late for this game.
Reputation: 72This has to be the most ******ed rumour ive heard in a while. Have you not seen the numbers in FFXI? Its not even half dead.
Where do you guys come up with this stuff its hilarious if you ask me.
When this happens/if this happens. Ill give FFXI another try. Been keeping my eye on it i dont see why i couldnt give it another shot.
Reputation: 119It isn't absurd to think this might happen, they are releasing a new game similar to final fantasy with better graphics and probably a better combat system with I'd imagine less problems with leveling and getting groups together...
The reason I ask though is because I've had like 4 or 5 people tell me they've read somewhere that it is going to close down once the other one comes out.
and no the game isn't dead, it's thriving fairly well but in a few years that will all change I could guarantee you.
I personally think this is extremely stupid of them, I would much rather them actually make it available in countries where the game has been discontinued (like canada where I live)because we can't even BUY the game up here for PC without spending 30~40 extra dollars.
You seem overly defensive about this leathel for never playing the game. I can tell you it is a pain in the *** to find a party, it isn't caused because of low population, but more because the population doesn't give a shit about the newer people. Sooner or later everyone is going to be level 75 in all the jobs they want to level up and the lower level guys like me will find it impossible to get a group...you already have to wait hours upon hours to get a group in valkurm dunes to get a group unless you just happen to be there when one is starting up. That was my main gripe about the game.
I quit ff11 for the same exact reason, couldn't find a party. . . wasn't going to wait 10 hours either.
Reputation: 119In 3 days of straight grouping I was in about 4 or 5 groups, one of them everyone left before we even killed anything, and the other 3~4 of them we only were together killing stuff for about 30 minutes then everyone was like g2g and such. I could solo but it bores me to tears having to kill 150 easy preys and having to rest in between every single kill, then add in the aggroing monsters like gobbys and orcish and it's way too hard to solo even with anniversary ring/chariot ring.
