Has anyone noticed that a lot of MMOs in the past few years (especially Asian MMOs) have abused the bloom effect?
For those who aren't familiar with it, check out the wikipedia article. It basically creates fringes of light (what I like to call "little fuzzies") around objects in a game to simulate the effects of real-world cameras.
In moderation it looks good but its been used ad nauseum to cover up crappy graphics. Some games have it as a scalable option, but others (Perfect World, Rappelz) leave you to choose between ugly textures and la-la-hazy-dreamland.
