Transparency?

I was playing RO today, and I noticed that a few guilds had emblems that were transparent, and that was fine and dandy but... when I checked the official site on creation of guilds and whatnot:

2. Emblems must be 24X24 pixels in BMP format using 256 colors

In Photoshop, transparent PNGs and GIFs were no problem, but JPEGs didn't seem to be too happy about having transparent sections in them. I would have tried this myself, but I don't have Photoshop anymore. Can you make BMPs that include transparent sections, created without Photoshop (if it requires software, something preferably free)?

I think when you use pink it shows up as transparent on the BMP. Not sure.

download an emblem, open with paint/photoshop whatever and use the color copy tool and get the pink background color of it and fill your emblems background with the same color, it MUST be THAT pink, if its a little lighter or a little darker, it wont show up as transparent.
