Default Atlantica Online: A Beginner’s Perspective

Online games have integrated themselves to the lifestyle of our generation. It offers a whole new world wherein people can be whoever they want to be without any inhibitions. Whatever your personality is, whether you’re a socialite, pet lover or tactician, there is an online game created just for you.

Atlantica Online or AO is just one of numerous online games available. It is categorized as an MMORPG or Massively multiplayer online role-playing game. MMORPG or MMOs as people call it are types of games where people create a character and play it to become the strongest, richest or most famous character it can be. What makes AO special? Well you’re in for a treat.

If you’re used to most tank and spank MMOs where you only have to kill lots of monsters, don’t fret because AO also offers an in game tutorial thru quests that will help even the most novice players get a feel on how to play the game. The tutorial that is integrated in-game is fascinating because it also ties up with the main story of the game which is a good thing because you get to follow the story while learning the gameplay.

As most games, it starts with creating a character. In AO, you have to select a main class from 8 weapon specialists with 1 unlockable class at level 100. The big difference with other MMOs is that in AO, your main character will have a party of up to 9 characters, your main + 8 mercenaries, which is another unique aspect of the game. Having mercenaries means you don't get burned out if you dislike your main character.

The setting of the game is also very imaginative, it combines icons of the old world like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon with 20th century places like Detroit with fantasy places like Forest of Spirits. The mercenaries are also characters from different eras like Spartans, Witches and Gunners. Fantasy buffs out there will have a blast with the world AO is set in

Another great feature of the game is its gameplay. AO offers a unique turn based combat system. From what is offered in the market, it is one of the pioneers of integrating this kind of gameplay in MMOs. Players will have a limited time of managing their skills and thinking of strategies in one turn then try to counter and anticipate the enemy’s strategy on succeeding turns. Since your party will have 9 mercenaries, the dynamics of each battle will be different each time. Micro management and ingenious strategy are the keys to be successful in this game.

Atlantica Online is just one of the thousands of MMOs out there. Unlike most MMOs though, it combines, great graphics, unique gameplay and fun story all in one game. Best of all, you get to enjoy all of this free.

Hate to be all negative and whatnot but as soon as you get past the whole "OMG turn based combat is so fun" feeling, it feels like every other mmorpg out there.

    True.

    Decent (p)review, though.

I never liked turn-based combat and I still think Atlantica is a blast.

    To add to your post:

    1) I agree the lore is more interesting than your standard MMO fare. They basically took a lot of the most interesting parts of our human history and conglomerated it into a fantasy setting.
    2) The soundtrack is pretty bad, but who listens to game soundtracks after the first week to month anyway.
    3) I'm only level 60 but the game is not terribly challenging...been cutting through monsters like a hot knife through butter
    4) the "Free League" PVP is really really fun.
