Not all movies that don't follow original plot are failures. Sometimes the worst thing is that it's unnecessary not to, but it can still turn out enjoyable.
Watchmen was enjoyable, but shit in terms of adapting the book. Should it have been made then? No, because Alan Moore didn't want it to.
Fight Club was brilliant, not really a great interpretation from the book, though. Should it have been made? Moot, because the author gave permission.
Even movies like The Dark Knight and Iron Man don't follow plot rigidly.
So, Warcraft could be good or it could be poor, this doesn't necessarily depend on the plot being true, so long as the changes are necessary and well done.
