ESRB Questions for the yall (SRS thread)
All right i know i can go to ESRB site to get these anwsered but i want to see what people think themselves
1.ESRB does what?
2.And what does it mean to you?
3.Does ESRB do its job well?
4.Do you find it is needed?
5. Also doesnt ESRB acts in the US Go against American Freedom rights?

all they do is tell people how games are rated and what is appropriate for mainstream distribution

The Electronic Software Rating Board rates video games like the MPAA rates movies. They rate games upon the content in any given game; sex, violence, blood, ect... They actually do their job really well with only one big slip up and that was due to content left in the game by the developer. I personally don't think any rating system is required because it forces developers to try and make their game a certain way in order to meet a rating that will net the most profit.
The ESRB is not affiliated with the govt. and in no way is enforced. It is not illegal if you by an M rated game and you are a minor. Some stores have policies not to sell certain games to minors but it has no legal backing at all. Many politicians are trying to use the ESRB to force retailers to legally not sell games to minors and this would be in violation of freedom of speech. This is because the government is no allowed to rate our media, they can't tell us what is good and what is bad. If they use the ESRB in any form of bill then they are declaring the ESRB as a government rating system. That's why all these laws get shot down and will never pass but continue to waste our money

I think ESRB does a realitively fair job.... Im 22 so i dont really pay attention to ratings but I wouldnt want a kid to play some games. There is no reason parents should be able to allow there kid to play a game with sex, gore, and swearing just because they cant tell anything about it.
