it also depend on what you play if you play wow cs:s cod4/5 etc you dont need a monster card.

but if you wanna play crysis warhead, far cry 2 etc. you gotta go big.

but whatever you do dont go ATI.
    why not ati?

If you have a PCI-Express Slot in your mother board then something from the new geforce series youll be able to play anything with that. If you have normal PCI i dont know if you have AGP then get the Play Value ATI Radeon X1650 Pro from www.play.com thats what i have and i can play almost every game i have. I can run World in conflict, red alert 3 and ghost recon 2 all on high with it and its only £40.

Don't you have a Mac? You can't upgrade those as far as I know.

You're spending 400 Pounds or 400 Euros? Either way, it's a lot in US money..But I'd like to know which so I can get you a good power supply and a good card.

We also need to know what resolution you will be gaming at, otherwise you're going to be throwing money away for a sexier card that will get you little to no performance boost.

I found this article for you, you should take a look. Its a review of the ATI 4890, but in its testing it matches up a number of different cards including the 4870 (what I have, a great value card IMO), the 4870x2, GTX 285, and GTX 260.

True, true, but with a budget like that, he's probably running at a high resolution already.

GT120 = 9500 GT 9500 GT is good enough for to play most games online, but if u need a more crazy video card ? go for gtx 280 it should be cheaper now and it cost around 250 - 280 from ebay. U might wanna check newegg, but i dont think its cheaper than Ebay tho. Gtx 285 is not any better than 280 tho, and 295 is kinda overprice so 280 is ur best choice.

Why pick Nvidia over ATI ? Nvidia = Phyxs , Ati = no Physx

ATI has Physx, just not the latest one. Also, why gethe GTX 280 and pay $230+ when you can get similar performance with the GTX 275 and 4890?

because there are some games that just wont work properly with ATI.

you will never experience compatibility issues with nvidia.
    atleast they'll be very rare

intel processor and nvidia gfx card is the way to go for gaming. thats just how it is.

not saying that im an expert in this area or anything but pratically every gamer i know tells me this.

The last generation of CPUs and GPU, was AMD and ATI dominating, and 2 generations before that.
