Default Final Fantasy XIV First Gameplay Video

An alpha version of the game is palyable today at the Gamescon in Germany and 1up has a video hosted of some gameplay.
A small hint, download the video to see it in perfect quality and be able to see that chat log, hotbar etc clearly.

    Just what I expected.

    Prettier version of FFXI.

Looks decent (gameplay wise, obviously the graphics are top notch, we knew that already).

This is why I love square enix, although the combat looks a little too much like most other mmorpgs which is kind of worrying.

I guess it's the whole "Don't fix what isn't broken" thing.

Seems kinda how I expected too, but, I don't mind, I quite enjoyed FFXI.

EUGH its EXACTLY the same. Meh if i could have joined ffxi from the start i probably would have though since joining those type of games late where everyone is a trillion years in front of you is hard....

I was surprised when people were saying all new races but it looked to me like the races were exactly the same as well.

Definitly going p2p on this one.
The UI is much cleaner and easy to use.

    100% agreed.
and the mobs he was killing.. were being tracked by a quest tracker it seems. so obviously average style questing, go kill x mobs for me and ill give you this shiney new buckler + some gil and a magic fire ring.

Yeah, the main reason I enjoyed FFXI so much was because it was different and not just the same old quest here quest there. Sure the combat and grind became repatitive later on but it felt quite nice.

That's why it's a alpha, still enough time to emprove the game before it cb, ob and when it is.
It probably will have some big story that you can follow to get to new area's and such.

Looks pretty, but the combat looked pretty crap.
But how much difference can you make in a year?

Well it doesn't look like it can compete with WoW at all from what I am seeing at the moment, but who knows.

Yeah, the combat looks dull and slow. . . they could have made better, but. . . we will see.

I love it that way, combat in XI was slower, but way more tactical.
    More planing and more fun

Combat on ff14 doesn't seem tactical at all though, unfortunatly.

It's an alpha version I think major discussions can wait until the game is released, at least till closed beta.
Please don't let this thread turn into an immature onrpg flamefest like so many threads do.

Personally I like what I've seen, am just a bit disappointed at the odd looking tarus, the lalafell have such long bodies @.@

Well, I think its too early to judge. You have about 2 mins of video, of what is likely a very low lvl character fighting low level mobs, and hence has very few skills if any, and has to deal with simple A.I mobs with very few(or no) skills themselves. Ofcourse its not gonna look flashy/tactical. Also, while it looks to be the same as FF11, thing is, most of the FF's look alike, but they each seem to have different systems, that drastically change strategies (hell, FF7 and FF8 look alike when you just look at the command windows, but they play very differently). So relax, and let some time pass before you jump ship.

Don't worry Arath, all we are doing is giving our opinion on what we see at the moment and that is all we can. No such thing as flame developing here at the moment, so. . .donno what you are on about.

Anyway, besides the combat lookin horrid and slow, I like the area design, also that you get a free teleport back home after you are done with your quest. Walking is always annoying

The char design looks pretty nice aswell.

Hmm, I felt great about the combat.
