Default Should I build a PC or buy a PS3?

I've had a job for a little while now and I'm trying to decide which I would rather do. I'm going to do both eventually, but the PS3 Slim is sexy as hell and that new price is making me drool.

I'm going to buy a 19" HDTV for my bedroom along with the PS3. That'll run me about $500. After I buy a few games it'll be around $600.

I've been throwing around the idea of building a PC. I've lined up all the parts I would need and after shipping from Newegg it would run me about $700. I'm not really too keen on building my own PC, but I realize that I have to to get the performance that I want.

So what do you think OnRPG? The PS3 route would also allow me to play my PS2 and finally get trucking on Final Fantasy XII and Xenosaga Episode 1. Should I get the TV and PS3 now and wait on the PC? Or should I build that PC now and wait a few months on the Playstation?

    PS3 isn't backwards compatible.

I'm a PC only gamer (except when in the bus to school), so you know my opinion is biased and will go for the pc.

I'm not particularly into Metal Gear Solid, but Warhawk, Resistance, and Killzone look great. Some of the games they showed at E3 like Heavy Rain have me drooling.

Wait out on the PS3 right now. As far as I know, most of the games don't really seem appealing until next year.

    Go for the PC.

@the Resistance idea: don't know about now, but last time I checked, online is dying.

Big reason to get a PS3 right now is M.A.G. is sending out random invites to their Closed Beta. Well, actually, Invites for Invitation Registration (get authorized to fill out a form saying why would be a good tester).

I just got my invite for invite today; hoping it gets authorized.

Also, 19" isn't a lot. I have a 22" monitor I used to play my PS3 on all the time (until my 2 roommates, who alsways hogged the tv, dropped out and got kicked out of my apartment (school apartments)). Even though it is HD suportive up to 1080P, it was a 1680x1050 resolution, so it downscale the scanlines, some. Plain and simple, you won't be getting much HD out of a 19", at least go 32".

That's a very good point. After watching an old TechTV video on youtube of some guys putting together a computer, it gave me the desire to do it. I'm gonna wait til the holiday season to buy my PS3.

You can also be waiting on FFIV (if it IS coming out)
and MAG for sure, and I'm pretty sure Free Realms haha
and most likely a whole bunch of random pwnage games you can search up on IGN and Gamespot, even though they boost like all the "Hands-On" and "previews" and shit but then give the game a 6 or something LOOL

If its gonna be a significant upgrade compared to your current comp, then go with PC.
get the HDTV aswell, just ditch the ps3 for now lol.

Good PC + HDTV = Supersexyfuntime

Awhile back i planned and done the same thing as you pretty much (built new pc, got hdtv and xbox360)
wish i just ditched the 360 (or got ps3 instead so i could atleast use for bluray lol) and got better comp parts instead lol,
its been in dust for months now lol, now i just connect my comp to the hdtv for high def games and vid's n such

My current PC is terrible. It was a pre-built from 2001, and it hasn't aged well. I couldn't run 25 man raids in WoW.

It's a bit different with a Xbox360 then with a PS3 since most of the worth buying Xbox360 games also come out for PC. In the case of the PS3 most of the games people buy it for are exclusives.

PC gaming is dying. The only thing you can get on pc that you can't get on consoles are mmo's. Personally i came to the conclusion that there are no good mmo's.

I bought a 360 2 weeks ago and i'm happy, i still prefer shooters on pc because on the keyboard and mouse but ill get used to it. There are so much more people playing games on the 360, you look at game monitor stats for lets say, COD 4, there are 10k-16k people playing it at any given time. Look at COD 4 on the 360...there are 80k-100k people playing it at any given time.

I have been a die hard pc gamer for a long time, but only playing shooters, mmo's and rts's isn't enough for me. The terrible console ports we get on pc didn't help either.

So yeah, i'd say buy a ps3 unless you really want to play mmo's.

Well, there's a few upcoming PC games that I HAVE to play. Diablo 3 and The Old Republic come to mind.

I have the same decision to make, lol. I can go and buy a console right now as I have enough money and my sister just got a 46" HDTV. So that will be great for gaming. I was thinking of getting a fast computer but I already have my brother in laws laptop which runs all games.. :S

    Tough decision.

Personally I would recommend the PS3 simply because the constant upgrading needed to keep up with PC gaming. PS3 2 years from now will still be able to play the best and newest PS3 games, PC on the other hand is debatable.

On the backward compatibility thing, I have a PS3 60 gig that is BC compatable but the thing is I hardly ever use it anymore after getting a few of the really good PS3 games.

Resistance/Resistance 2 - great single, multi is dying some
CoD 4/CoD WaW - Great games, on other platforms but I like the fact hardly anyone uses a microphone the PS3.. no annoying assholes.
Killzone 2 - Buy it, end of story, best shooter on PS3 and more of a think and shoot, not twitch based
Metal Gear Solid 4 - great multiplayer with one of the best single players to hit in a while
Oblivion/Fallout 3 - More stable on PS3 than 360, Fallout 3 is finally getting the DLC packs starting in September

I could list more games but I'm lazy

but dude thats one of the biggest fallacies.

think about it, playstation came out in 1994 with ps1 coming in around 2000 and then followed by ps2, then in 2004 the slim version of ps2, then ps3 comes out 2006 and now the slim version in 2009.

now you say that ps3 2 years from now can still play the best and newest games, well the ps2 is still having games released for it and probably will for another decade.... but that doesnt stop people buying a ps3.

then you gotta add the fact that alot of people have more than one console brand. so they may have all the playstations but also an xbox or 360 or all of those... and maybe even a wii as well.

if anything pc gaming is more lasting since you can buy cheap components for your pc to increase performance and play half decent games without the need to shell out cash for the newest console and newest games.. which are always so expensive on release.

so if someone is one of those people with a 360, ps3 and a wii and is still sitting there saying that console gaming is better because you dont need to upgrade.... well to me thats just stupid. because in two or three years youll probably just go out an buy a ps4 or an xbox720

pc gaming has always been more cost effective ever since the console market exploded and became godly-huge.

if anything the biggest killer for pc gaming is companies focusing on their console games because its more cost effective for them.

if i see that crummy console port one more time.....

It still doesn't explain to me why you would buy a ps3 just to continue 2 other games on another console?xD

A decent PC will also cost the average Joe(Who doesn't where to find good prices) more then him buying a new game console.
what im saying is that most people go out and buy a new console when its released, not to play new games or anything, but just because its a new console and they are a fan or whatever.

alot of gamers tend to stick with the same pc for years and just play mid-range games and dont instantly go to upgrade their pc when a new game comes out. but alot of console gamers will buy a next gen console almost when its new.

so people talk about whats more cost effective despite the fact that they own all three next gen consoles.
