I don't have any of those alka seltzer things but I do have baking soda. My only concern is that nothing will get down the sink at all so how the hell does putting stuff in there do anything if it wont go down?

a baking soda is fine too.

one thing you can do is removie the grill/drainage thing (dunno the name for it) from the plug hole and try to break up the blockage by hand, or failing that get a wire coat hangar and stretch it out so you can shove it down the hole to break it up a little and hopefully get the baking soda in there.

if all else fails just open the pipe
