Default Guild Wars 2 cash shop?

I have heard that gw2 will have no monthly fees like the first one so I was wondering how are they going to keep the game running? I mean it looks so much larger in scale that I doubt selling expansions will make them all the money they need. Has there been any talk on how're they going to charge people? So the game will be b2p, but will they keep making expansions every six months like in the first one or will they add cash shop and release fewer expansions, like once in a year or so? Just wondering because the game looks awsome but I don't want to keep buying new expansions.

    Anyone have any idea?
    Thanks in advance!

They will probably do the expansion thing again.

No B2P games have cash shop. Atleast to my knowledge, cash shop would just ruin the game. I'm sure they will release expansions and I'm sure a decent sum of money will bust in when everyone buys the game.

Sorry, but it seems like the posters in this thread havent played the game.

Yes, GW has a cash shop. Just not like the way other developers/publishers have. It has expansions, skill unlocks, and upgrade unlocks you can purchase (among other things).

I am sure GW2 will have a similar CS as GW.

And neither do they go that you need to buy this to go further.

What cyber said. The cash shop of guildwars are pretty much just access to extra not really necessary things, or "lazy people" stuff(unlock all skills.)

... and of course extra missions and chapters.

    Edit: lol c.h.i.n.k is censored?

lol Just to make things abit clearer.

GW2 will run on the same marketing platform that the first one has it will be B2P and will be supported by future expansions and a micro-transaction type ingame store selling similar stuff to the first gw store for example extra character slots, pet unlocks, character renaming etc. I think this was answered on the Gw2 wiki or in an interview.

Yup. Almost everything in there store can be unlocked in gameplay. So, its not really needed, unless you want more character slots.

Yeah, I know its censored... try chinky? Those who like my name rather call me that anyway.

and what I read on the first page

    "b2p with cash shop?"

Probably missunderstod me but I'll try rephrase it...

What I menth is that I don't think many people will play a B2P with cash shop game...
Then again, I don't know how many fans Guild Wars got...

The GW1 "cash shop" is balanced for the most part.

    There's only 1 thing i dislike....
In pvp (and in pve too, but mostly pvp), it's really important to have all campaigns (and even gwen many times) to "maximise" your build. You won't even get accepted in a pvp guild without all campaigns (not saying that it won't happen, but it will PROBABLY do). It's not a BIG thing anyways...

About the unlocks, they are OK, it only takes the fun away of the game so i don't bother.

It's like those guys that pay for a run in "x" mission (and oh boy, people even run daily quests, what's the point of playing a game without actually "play" it ?).

Fortunately i can still find some people to pug in daily quests, not many.

    Oh, and english typos ftw!

    3. Rephrase? Sorry, even the rephrase failed. The CS has been around for quite a while, and they are still gaining members. They are over 4 million in Q1 of '09.

Just admit it, you never played the game. Its obvious.
ya its growing by day the community i see new players every day who asks for help and everything ... and channels are quite filled now days ... and yah CS was there from teh begging cuz other people needed extra slots ...

Let's not forget the April update.... or may I say... Cash shop update?

Well, it did give some new stuff for general ppl, and i don't care about the new "looks update" and the extra tabs at all....

OH! And they dam fooled us! Just checked the game and there was no "big" update as they (kinda) told us this year. Tricking people by showing a GW2 trailer and forgetting the real stuff... oh well.

I like the bet system during tournaments, and the coins to buy new armor for pvp characters.

That quite killed the game for me, i could just get a free elite armor every month, only have like 5 in total, but still.....

    [Edit]
OH! Can't believe i forgot to mention this.
Due to xunlai tournament house (the bet system he mentioned), having multiple accounts is a HUMONGOUS advantage, it's basicly gold selling by arena net, really.... now that's very overpowered.

How can it kill the game for you? D: The armors it unlocks is for PvP characters only... not to mention, you won't win every single bet. D:

Edit: And it's not even the whole set, just probably 1 or 2 armor pieces a month... I can complete an elite set in a week from scratch(PvE). :/
