i dont know whats wrong with your xbox but i had the same problem with my ps2. i tried to fix it but it didnt really work so i just traded it in and got a new one

yeah i just cleaned my ps2 up and had my dad look at it to fix it up a little bit so it would work for a little while in case they tested it then i took it to gamestop and traded it in and a few games that i didnt play.

so i go to this game stop of some sort and trade in my xbox for a new one

No way in f*cking hell any place would take a broken PS2 or gamecube if you fixed it up.
And IF they took it they would try to buy it for like $20.
My suggestion, go to a local futureshop or Geeks'R'us and get it fixed for like $30. Saves you cash, and an Xbox.
