    Respect is something you feel for another human being or something they've done.

    It usually comes in the form of an admiration despite any other feelings, often in spite of those feelings.

    It's all too often confused with being respectful. That's just manners. Respect is different.

    Respect is something you give and expect back.

    Money=power=respect.

    Respect is treating the people the way you would want to be treated.

    Respect for me means that a person's deeds are so great that no matter if I like the person or hate him, he will still have my love.

    I suppose respect for me is kinda like loyalty. My mother for example can be cruel to me but I have enough respect for her to do what she asks of me no matter how she says it. She has done so much for me growing up that I will always be there for her no matter what.

    She knows how to party.

    You guys are confusing the two different meanings of respect. It'd be like confusing the two different meanings of lean: one means to rest yourself against an object, but another way it can be used is to refer to how skinny you are. Of course, Norrin Radd pointed this out, but I don't know if you actually read his post.

    Anyway, I'll just quote the dictionary as for what I think respect is: a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

    Remember, there's a difference between respecting someone's right to hold an opinion, and respecting their opinion itself. I respect anyone who can go on charity work to third world countries and try and make a difference there and forego all of the niceties of living in the first world to do it. There's a difference between people who just do charity work, and people who really go into the troubled areas and give it all their best despite many of the shortcomings, be it medicine, supplies, etc. That's something that I greatly respect.

    respect is earned not given.

    to earn maximum respect go to southeast trenton and get the uzi then use it to kill zaibatsu and you can earn max respect with the yakuza.

    "Respect" and being "respectful" are more closely linked than some of you might think. Calling it "manners" means nothing more than having respect for the basic social code and the idea of being a moral and good person.

    If you act respectful towards a mean teacher, you still respect them. You do not respect them for being a good person, but you do respect the fact that they occupy a position of authority, which is why you are respectful.

    I don't act respectful to anyone who isn't respectful to me.

    That doesn't mean I don't have respect for them if they deserve it.

    In that case, it means that you don't have respect for their manners/attitude and you do have respect for some other quality. The concepts are not divorced, however.
