Default Roman Polanski Said to be Arrested

Roman Polanski Said to be Arrested

Polanski fled the United States in 1978 to live in France, after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl, and at the Zurich Film Festival today he was arrested by Swiss police

I'm really torn on this, I love Chinatown and just can't find it in myself to condemn the man. Do any of you think Polanski (now 76) still deserves to be arrested?

I don't think Chinatown is a valid defence for unlawful relations with a minor.

I don't think anyone above 70 years old should be imprisoned, unless they're imprisoned before that.

HOWEVER, he should still be punished for his deeds.

So I failed 9th grade math 4 times...how old was he when he was doing the 13 year old?

If he was like 30 something, yeah...he should still go to jail.

    i believe he should.

he broke the law, he should pay the penalty.

while its bad timing on the laws behalf

you can't say age is a valid reason for a sex offender to walk or get a lesser sentence.

    lets play Roman Polanski's house!!!

Also - yeah, maybe not prison...but house arrest or something. With one of those collar things for his ankle so he can't leave his property.

If he gets 30 years, it'd be life anyways.

ew pedo. Making good movies is no excuse for being a horrible person in real life. Throw him in prison I say.

Well apparently even the child he diddled wants the charges to be dropped.

It would be pretty stupid to throw him in jail now.

    I'm sure it'll happen though.

And one mistake hardly makes him a horrible person.

    Pedophilia is a mental disorder.

Being a ********* doesn't make you a bad person, acting on your urges repeatedly without any sort of remorse does.

And I'm not defending this guy cause he makes good movies, I've never even seen any of them.

    INB4 ur a pedo.

His time spent in France could be considered part of his prison term, if convicted.

The act happens in cold blood (not really in practical but rather in the sense of the terminus technicus), there is no defense option for insanity at all.

Even if you consider attraction to children to be a mental disorder, acting on it isn't. Hence paedophelia isn't really a mental disorder. That's like saying people with an insatiable appetite for killing people shouldn't be jailed (in the case that they actually didn't control their urge and killed people). The point Ronin is making (I think), is hey, most of us are attracted to womn, but we dont force ourselves on them, there's a thing called self control. There's sense of right and wrong in most people's actions, not the case for paedophiles. Polanski fully deserves to go to jail. I'm surprised hobosexual actually sympathises with this guy.

As far as his age at the time...lets do the math: he's 76 now, the lawsuit was in 1977 and he fled in 1978. Taking 1977 to be the year of the incident, its 32 years ago, which would've made him 44, 43 at best. He's a paedophile, pure and simple.

All I'm saying is even the girl wanted the charges against him dropped.

The man made a mistake, what he did was obviously wrong no one is saying it isn't.

It's not even like he would be getting off easy, I'm sure he regrets what he did, and I dunno if the entire world knew I had done something like that I feel like that would be a punishment in and of itself.

Basically if even the girl who he ***** can move on and forgive him why the hell can't we, I'm sure the trauma of having the experience brought up again and again and again by all these people is pretty shitty for her.

Ugh, the article makes a convincing bid for the director's freedom.

    Yet, law should be indiscriminating...

    Damn. This is hard.

You get to **** one little girl for every Academy Award-winning film you direct.

    That's the law.

The Judge of the case was going to accept a plea bargain but backed out on the deal and that is what caused Roman to flee the United States, and as stated by others before, the woman herself wishes the charges were dropped.

Some of you fail to see the seriousness behind fleeing your sentence. Even if the girl wanted the charges dropped, it still leaves open the fact that Polanski fled the country to avoid his sentence. That in itself is punishable.
