The real reason is because the majority of you ( not you directly you as in the gaming community, or maybe. yeah you.) are a bunch of immature sexually confused manchilds or teenagers with raging hormones. The company's that make the games (knowing this) capitalize on it and provide you with what you see on the markets today.

althought i newer chose female chars like in wow orks, taurens or dwarf. but if its sexy/cute or anyother way doest look boring, i definitely going to make females. why whould i hawe to stare at some male but all time i play .. thats just wrong...
btw it depends why u make that char, either u make it that it would be ur "mirror" or u just make it as a game tool, like sword or other weap, u just want it to look good. most of males who create female chars just make then coz they look beter and well, u get way more pleasure to see nice female in screen that some guys but(atleast i hope that most of them)

I don't know why the butt argument is so popular. When I play an MMORPG, I stare at my quest objectives, the boss I'm fighting, the party chat, the NPC shops, or something else, but not my character's butt.

I never play a female char unless the class is gender locked. Why? Because in 90% of the games, armor on females looks like it wouldn't stop a rock let alone a sword or a spear.

The reasons I do it:
1.) To gain special items, skills, quests from being in a couple.
2.) Gender/character restrictions on my favorite class to play.
3.) To actually roleplay. Some people actually like to make characters that resemble other fictional characters from movies, books, video games, etc.
4.) Specific skill sets designated to female characters (For example in Trickster Foxes are Win at drilling)
5.) I'm not homophobic nor feel insecure because I remember #1, #2 and #3.
6.) Some of my favorite characters have always been females in video games and statistically they are usually more useful, especially in console RPGs.

I have a female character in SRO and I've told everyone that (I always do) I'm a guy, and no one ever told me that I'm gay or something derogative like that.

Problem with that statement is that it shows lack of self-control. You are letting your biological attraction to women take the upper hand in your decision. Such lack is not desirable in any society, that's why there will be people that look down at you even though they do not explicitely say so.
It is like choosing to eat at a fast food restaurant simply because you are too lazy to wait for a real cooked meal from home or a better restaurant. It shows lack of character.
