    Default Usmc

Alright so check it, I was contacted by my recruiter that my date for boot camp has been moved up to fill quene, so Im leaving for boot camp in mid December, and ive been forcing myself to working out 2 times a week in the past couple months to be honest, cause the lack of not having much else to do is gettin me lazy and didnt have much luck landing a job, so I figured why no dedicate more time to getting ready for BMT?

and Although I feel like ive better prepared myself I cant help but feel im just not ready yet, so I Figured I should Force myself to make it all week thing until its time to head out.

So I was wondering if you all could give me some tips/ideas ,or numbers I should shoot for in workouts in doing things like push ups , pull ups etc, and how long i should be pushing myself to run longer distances , how much more weight realisticaly would I want too carry with me durings jogs?(im more stamina then speed) ;O any help is appreciated ;x

Try getting a Job with UPS if you need money for College. They have a Program for College Students.

There are plenty of people who are either amoral or who believe in the (in your opinion sometimes immoral) decisions of their government. What if they just enjoy the fitness and the combat?

Apart from these though, I had a (very left-wing and intelligent) friend who wanted to join the army as a teacher. He wanted to learn self control. He wanted to get fit. He wanted to learn to give orders and feel confident in situations where he would otherwise not feel able to do the morally right thing (like stand up for someone getting threatened by a gang). He wanted to make a difference to the lives of the soldiers he taught. He wanted to serve his country in what he saw were causes which were (generally) worthwhile.

As for the matter of serving unquestionably, if he was ever asked to do something he really did not agree with, he said he would be happy to be court-martialed for disobedience.

Now I can understand what you are saying about most people who want to join the army being idiots, but I think it's unfair of you to uniformly brand everyone with this label. You can say that the causes the government asks you to fight for are immoral, but this isn't always the case and (in my country at least) I don't think it is often the case. You can say you shouldn't serve anyone unquestioningly, but that is not a necessity, even for a soldier. You can say there are better ways of learning these skills, and that may be true, but it doesn't make him an idiot for wanting to join the army.

There are good reasons for wanting to join the army, if you've thought them through and are sure in what you are doing.

Well honestly, who the **** cares.

Also, sorry, I don't have any tips seeing as I'm only 15 and don't workout.

"YOU are the one going against what they fight for."

In what way was he going against the military? I think he was asking you not to insult them.

"Idiots would call this cowardice, smart and logical people would call it rational behavior."

    I lawled.

It'd be something THEY fought for. THEY fought for my ability to be able to say that without punishment.

Besides I'm not setting out to insult them, I'm saying what I feel.

You should never support "the troops". I will support whoever I think is worth supporting personally. If one of my friends or a good person I know is a troop, I'll hope he comes back ok (Even if he made the dumb choice to go in the first place). Why would I support anyone else?

If a lot of the people I've met in life, and not go along with, signed up, I would not be supporting those troops.
Just because you can doesn't mean it's right. Then again, opinion, so w.e.

Anyway, off to buy some toaster strudels.

My advice is JOIN the Marines if you love it.Dont listen to Norrin or anyone else who says its stupid cuz its not.If its your dream, live it,make it happen.Friendship in the army is the best there is,plus the benefits that come with serving are great.I respect every single Marine/Soldier out there.Oh and unlike you Norrin, those Marines/Soldiers are actually helping someone out there, and sacrificing their own lives for those poor people in Afghanistan,so they can have a better future.

Join your public service and reap the rewards no other career can bring.
stable pay, pension, housing, friends, teamwork, life skills, possibly a trade after, so many things

one downside is the chance of death but in my opinion death is the most incredible thing a soldier can do for us, doesnt mean its a good thing however of course

Norrin please lock this thread and give yourself an infraction for getting ridiculously OT and starting a ******ed flame war.

The point of forums is not to inject your own opinion and value judgments into every single bloody thing. The guy was asking what he can do to get in shape.

Think seriously about joining the USMC before you do, it is not something to take litely. If you do decide to join, talk to your recruiter and they will give you a plan on what you should do before you leave for bootcamp as to fitness preparedness and such.

    @People who bash military service...

Where else do you get to blow shit up for a living?

I was off to join the Army until I became sick and was forced to leave bootcamp. You may not agree with his decision but openly attacking him like you are just makes you look pathetic. Being a soldier has improved a lot of peoples lifes and is a great opportunity for those that can't afford college otherwise.

If you view it as that simple, your opinion is invalid.

I'm not attacking him, by any means.

As for the college argument: no. There are an infinite list of ways to acquire money before "Joining the Armed Forces". Get a job, take a shot from some guy who's willing to pay for it, wash some cars, cut some grass, do neighbourhood errands. The list, serious or otherwise, has many items of work in front of it before "Armed Forces" is a necessity.

Saying; "Where else do you get to blow shit up for a living?" is what makes you look pathetic.

I may look pathetic but you look like a high horse dick.

And there is a way to make money infinentally with the military, it is called a career legnth enlistment which last I saw was a minimum of 20 years enlistment followed by very good retirment benefits that include perks like the GI bill and such, which he would get anyways since this is currently a war time for the US.

But then again I'm pathetic so I guess my opinion doesn't matter next to the all mighty attitude you're taking on the subject.
