Default How do you go about getting a website?

Alright, I plan on getting my own website, it is going to include stories I have written, etc.

Now, I never had a website and was thinking about getting one of these hosts with a template, since I have no html knowledge whatsoever. . .

You know, doing it easy. It needs to have style, but doesn't have to be the best, not for now.

I am not really sure.... what host is good and stuff. . .

I don't know where to start.

Any of you got some advice on how to go about it?

    Thanks!

Yeah, I looked at html before, years ago ...but, I don't know if I can be bothered with the hassle. .. .. it takes time to learn and then configuring the page with it, takes time aswell and I could use that time somewhere else.

..Anyway, I am currently looking at yola, it looks and sounds nice. . .anyone have any experience with their service?

Easiest way is to start free blog, best on wordpress.com or maybe blogger.com

These offer the best and most designed layouts, and easy admin panels. And everything can be solved that you can make on a free host and template web services. I recommend these more.

I find blogspot/blogger easier to use (example in my sig).

    https://www.blogger.com/start

    Or even Xanga (example).

    http://www.xanga.com/

Xanga seems to look much nicer.

Wordpress is a great system but make sure to keep yourself on the latest version of the software.

As for Xanga.. I've never seen a professional use for Xanga

Ah, so I have to dl a software to blog in wordpress?

Anyway, I dont plan on having a page with utterly awsome designs.

I am planning on having a black background, some white/grey. . . smoke colour for my writing and a pic of myself in black and white.

I am going to upload stories, drawings etc etc and plan on using it to "get out there"

I might also link the site on job applications, so it has to work

You can just download and load the template to your blog.

    Wordpress template: http://www.eblogtemplates.com/templa...dpress-themes/

    Blogger template: http://www.eblogtemplates.com/templa...ger-templates/

There are alot of template websites out there, you just need to find the right one

www.moonfruit.com - It is ****ing amazing.

But you should learn html and php... You could make a good website then. Adobe dream weaver is great for it.

If you want a good website that people will go to then do get a .tk domain. accually pay for a .net, .com, .org...

Wordpress.org is a platform that you install on your own server. It has more functionality than Wordpress.com, and you have complete access to all of the back end stuff and HTML. It's for more advanced users, but is remarkably easy to set up.

    http://wordpress.com/ - Free website

    http://wordpress.org/ - Free publishing platform
    I second this.

yep in wordpress once you install the theme

go into the theme's folder via either ftp or a html editor(aka dreamweaver) and edit the footer.php

That's the file that shows Copyright by ..... on the bottom of every page.
