I'd have to perfectly agree with MageMoa with those MMOs. WoW, Maple Story and RuneScape were the ones I was thinking of. Even though you said not WoW, it's the most populated.

It's low-spec, so most computers can run it (compared to WoW and AION), easy to learn, easy to play. Side-scrolling is enjoyable, too.
