Default looking for recent rpg to play

I've been looking for an RPG lately. All of these are suppose to be decent.

    Dragon Age: Origins
    Divinity II: Ego Draconis
    The Witcher
    Risen
    Gothic 3

I'm looking for a vast world like oblivion, but third person, I can't stand the first person camera that oblivion uses. I like having one character so no games with parties constantly. Plenty of pretty forests and towns would be a plus too.

I believe Dragon Age is a game with parties, I don't know much about Divinity, Witcher seems a little dark, and Risen and Gothic 3 seem decent. I'm kinda leaning towards Risen. Any thoughts or other games I should consider?

Yeah, if you don't enjoy parties then avoid Dragon Age at all costs.

I do suggest The Witcher. I can't speak for the others, honestly.

I thought Gothic 3 was really fun, if you can live with all the bugs and stuff.

The Witcher was good too, tho it doesnt seem like a game for everyone.

Dragon Age Origins I thought was really good. I liked pretty much everything about it, tho its another game that people seem to either love or hate.

Never played any of the others.

Dragon Age: Origins - Great if you like party oriented RPG.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis - Haven't played. I've heard that it has loads of bugs.

The Witcher - Didn't really like it, and I'm not sure why.

Risen - If you like Gothic, then play Risen. Have some bugs, but still very enjoyable.

Gothic 3 - Haven't played since the release date. It was not possible to play it then, cause they released it to early, but I think that patches have fixed most of the issues.

The Witcher got boring pretty quickly in my opinion. Lots of backtracking, and the combat, while intuitive, gets very boring after a while. But it's worth a play, because as Mystery said, it's a game you either love or hate. =/

Divinity 2 is...well, in my opinion, it just seemed too rushed. The game had some good points, but most of it is very glitchy and I found myself avoiding enemies because I hated the combat. D= It's got an odd difficulty curve as well. It's damn near impossible in the beginning of the game, but once you get the battle tower, you're pretty much unstoppable.

As for Dragon Age, I'd say give it a try. I'm not one for party-oriented games myself and it kept me highly entertained. It has a sort of KOTOR feel, and it has a built in gambit system for your party members so that you don't have to control everything in the heat of battle. In fact, I just control my character. I let everyone else do whatever they want.

I can only say something about Dragon Age Origins, it's a wonderful game and really worth getting. (If you ever played Baulder's Gate, think a much more advanced and funner version).
I must disagree with you. While Dragon Age Origins is a good game, it is by no stretch of the imagination better in any way than Baldur's Gate. It is not more advanced Baldur's Gate either, if anything it is more simplified.

Risen sounds like something you'd want, although I've never played it. I've only seen screenshots and trailers

I recently, umm..."picked up" a copy of Risen. Reminds me a lot of Two Worlds. The dialogue is pretty bad, the combat is stale, and I kept getting ***** by porcupine looking rat things and giant birds within 30 minutes of playing the game. And there's pretty much no story so far. You're a stowaway on a very small looking boat (which brings into question how you stowed away in the first place ) that gets shipwrecked. Only you and some girl survive. And then you explore the island you wash up on to find out that the Inquisition is pretty much taking over, and the Don was kicked out of his town and then relocated in the swamp to gather gold or somesuch. So far, I'd say it's not worth the computer space it takes up, but I'll play it a bit more. Who knows, maybe something will happen that actually makes the game enjoyable. >_>

EDIT: Also, fair warning, the combat is HARD. Not because it's complicated, in fact it's just the opposite. You click the left mouse button to swing and the right mouse button to block. You can also press the jump button and any direction key to make a quick step in that direction. The problem is that enemies can do the same, and they ALWAYS DO. You can't land a hit because they're always backing away from you, and the moment you try to approach them, they beat on you mercilessly. And there's absolutely nothing you can do because every hit stuns you for a fraction of a second; and trust me, half a second is all a giant vulture needs to eat you. T.T
